Some people think back to when they were a child and say they don't want to look back again. Some say they don't want to remember their childhood. Maybe because they didn't have enough money or because you couldn't afford something. Maybe it's because you didn't have the freedom when you were young. After you read this story, you will change your mind of your whole childhood. Altogether, this is a story that tells how a child that always had faith in himself even though he was hit, beaten up, and almost killed by his own mother. Dave was a slave as referring to himself in the story always had to do chores. Things such as washing the dishes every day after he comes home from school and after the family finishes eating. He would also have to starve for weeks with only little bits of leftover food from his brothers. As said in the story from his own mother "I'm living in hell because of you." The mother does not abuse the other children, she only abuses Dave. She's abusing Dave because she says, "He's a bad boy." In response the mother would answer in sarcastic ways responding by saying "Yeah Dave, tell them how I starve you and beat you like a dog". Dave thought of how stupid he was, thinking this was all over. When after all, nothing changed. His mother went back to hitting him, starving him, choking him, forced him to sit naked in freezing water for hours, forced him to sleep in the garage, and under the breakfast table with only newspapers to cover
