Carlos, Michael, and Nick all can identify with the American-Jeffersonian self. The American-Jeffersonian self has the freedom to endeavor satisfaction and goals. As Percy stated the Jeffersonian self is, “endowed with certain inalienable rights and the freedom to pursue happiness and
fulfil its potential” (Percy, 15). All three of my college suitemates exercises these rights. Carlos Ciriaco, for example, is a political science major with a career goal to be a lawyer. He has his own past times such as playing rugby, playing video games and spending time with his girlfriend. Carlos uses his leisure time to pursue his own happiness and he also pursues success by studying hard. Nick is a psychology major with a career goal to be a psychiatrist. Nick spends most of his time studying hard to do well in his classes and in his spare time he partakes in activities that make him happy such as soccer, basketball, and pursuing women. Lastly Mike is a business/international relations major with a career goal to be a pimp. Michael spends much of his time studying hard so he can excel on his exams. In his spare time Michael partakes in activities that he finds fun, such as playing video games, basketball, football and watching boxing. All of my college suitemates are very studious, so they can achieve their goals, but they also enjoy their leisure time. They all have inalienable rights such as the liberty to pursue happiness and success and they rightfully exercise these rights. This makes them clear examples of the American-Jeffersonian self.
My college suitemates are perfect examples of the American-Jeffersonian self. They all exercise the inalienable rights they were granted in the United States Constitution. All 3 of these college students exercise these rights in their daily activities. An a Jeffersonian self-one has the freedom to make themselves a very content individual which makes that person very lucky to live in a country like the United States.
