Summary Of Anthem By Ayn Rand
The book I read this month is called "Anthem" by Ayn Rand. Anthem is a fiction book and was quite interesting. It was about a person called Equality 7-2521 and how his life led to a huge turning point.
"Anthem" took place in a futuristic civilization. The book was about a society who were all equal and exactly the same until one brave person named Equality 7-2521 thought outside the box, something that has not been done in a while. It was very confusing to read at times but in the end everything ties together and all your questions get answered.
The story began in a place called Home of the Students. There Equality 7-2521 learned just like all the other young students. Later on he completed his education and was sent to the Council of Vocations.

The council shows how easy it is to do so. The council created the unmentionable times, which was before the Rebirth and the Great Script fire. After that, they had to follow rules, which were to be a collective society; those rules caused everyone to be one. Another thing is the punishment they use and how it did not affect Equality at all.…

It is illegal to say “I” because there is only we. The government has stripped the individual of anything that made them special and forces them into a collective hive mind with everyone else. This world of full conformity is from a book named Anthem by Ayn Rand. Anthem was written in 1938 but today the country of North Korea strongly resembles how the citizens in the book act and how their government rules them. From limiting them to better ways of living and using technology, brainwashing the entire population to think in a certain way for the benefit of the government and imprisoning those who object to the laws set forth by the government Anthem and North Korea are eerily similar. Even though they have a lot of similarities they aren't completely alike; in North Korea they worship their leaders and they do not care about the citizens relationships.…

“You have to find what sparks a light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world.” Oprah Winfrey often speaks about finding your own path and not allowing others to dictate your life. The story of Anthem by Ayn Rand, is the exact opposite of what Oprah stands for. Rand tells the story of a young man named Equality 7-2521, it being written from his point of view. Equality has shown to commit many “sins” throughout the course of his life. He feels as though what the council decides of his fate is a punishment for his sins, of which he is grateful. However, Equality soon wants to prove that he is scholar worthy, and that he should be promoted. He is led by the word “ego,” his thoughts and actions are to often better himself rather than the group of individuals. For this Equality has been shown to be an individual in his quest to learn for himself, as well as his need to improve his understanding of the world.…

The country of Venezuela is the counterpart of Anthem: plagued with corruption, oppression, and authoritarian rulers. From the article on Venezuela’s horrendous woes, many components are equivalent to the society of Anthem by Ayn Rand. President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela and the World Council of the novel ardently strive for authoritarian power, and they would authorize any action to maintain this status. In the novella, it presented the top officials obstructing Equality 7-2521’s distinctive philosophy by preventing him from organizing any act of rebelling against their government. Also, the same situation applies to Equality’s predecessors, including the Saint of the Pyres where the government mandated lethal action against the delinquent.…
