Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates is a letter to his 15-year-old son Samori telling him his personal experience on how to live in America being black. Coates talks about his upbringing in the rough neighbors in Baltimore, MD which you usually grow up being poor, must be raise by your single mother and growing up fast to take care of yourself. He decided to turn his life by attending to Howard University, which he calls it “The Mecca” he is woken from the diversity of black people at Howard by taking studies of black writers and history. The police officers are the ones to protect but they are killing us because we are listening to loud music or put in a chokehold for selling cigarette. Violence is the reason America is racially divided. The most powerful in this book is that no matter what you always must be twice as good in America and to take responsibility for the actions of other black people. Every new generation of black people will have different experience but no matter what the inherit of hate within people for black people will always the history of America. It saddens that we can’t the pain or struggle that people must go through in America. The power of the Dreamers will strengthen the world into a better for everyone especially black people. What I my three take-a- ways from a personal perspective is that white people loves to put the emphasis on being white because it gives them their power and privilege. Which I feel like it’s so true especially going to an all-white high school. White people had this sense power that all black people are dumb, then we end up being the smartest people in the class. My education at Howard has extended to have greater love for my own people especially when I went to high school and barley knew the greatness of my own people just only the
