Language helps us share other people’s experience. She uses a popular movie reference that incorporates examples of slang to make her essay more engaging for the reader. The movie the author uses is Mean Girls, and she remembers, “Gretchen want[ed] to introduce fetch as slang (to mean, pretty much, “awesome”), but clique leader Regina [wouldn’t] have it. ‘Stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen,’ she [said], ‘It’s not going to happen’” (Lapidos 220). She mentions this scene from Mean Girls not only to create a relatable tone, but also because it is a major part of her theory. Lapidos’s argues, for a slang term to work in an everyday lifestyle, it always helps to have influential people in a community to use the new slang. In this case, the influential person is Gretchen from Mean Girls. Lapidos also uses creative and fun language to make her essay more relatable for her readers. When she was introducing her essay, Lapidos expressively lists everyday slang such as, “dig, trippy, groovy, grok, heads, hip, mysto, and, of course, cool” (Lapidos 219). These fun words aren’t only examples for her essay, but they also show off the author’s personality. Reveling her charm creates a connection between the author and her audience, which makes Lapidos’s readers feel more engaged with the work they are reading. When the reader becomes engaged in the literature, the author’s writing was truly…
Language is central to every single culture on Earth. Not only is it the human race’s main method of communication, it also is the only truly accurate way to record the human experience with integrity. Therefore, language shows most everything about who we are, from one’s homeland to education and everything in between. For instance, in Firoozeh Dumas’ The ‘F Word,’ a young Iranian girl is judged for who she is without any of her contemporaries taking a moment to figure out why.…
In the book Ella Minnow Pea, the linguistic world around them is eroding as the roots of their native language is slowly decaying as the days go by. During this time of confusion, hate, and misunderstanding the villagers must unite, for if they do not, the loved ones around them will start to fade away as well. The struggles they face between friends, family, and neighbors will challenge the close knit relationships they’ve spent a lifetime building in their small island community. The challenges will test their moral framework, as once close friends may be the very reason for their own demise. During this time of hardship, many of the villagers seek answers from the late linguistic genius himself, the great Mr. Nevin Nollop. Mr. Nollop is highly honored by the villagers for crafting the infamous pangram “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”, a sentence composed of all the letters of the alphabet with very few of the characters being used multiple times. This glimpse of peer literary genius is the reason that the people of the small island village respect and honor the vocabularian’s wisdom in these times of communication turmoil. Nevin Nollop cherished the written and spoken language of his people and before his death he expressed, “Love one another, push the parameter of this glorious language. Lastly, please show proper courtesy; open not your neighbor’s mail.” (Dunn, 74)This is the quotation I will seek to apply outside of the written pages of Ella Minnow Pea.…

The way in which we speak now has developed noticeably over the years from the way in which we use to fifty years ago so much so that it has almost entirely become another language. During the course of this essay i will be analysing the spoken language between both the liverpodlian teacher, student interview and the Lancastrian teenagers’ exchange of ideas by commenting on how they both use linguistic devices such as fillers, Standard English, modern slang, power and dominance; how they adapt their language to suit different situations and exploring why they do so.…

As Whitman said, “slang, or indirection is an attempt of humanity to escape from bald literalism.” Meaning every individual's takes literalism into their own hands, with their own way of perceiving it. Referring to how language plays a role in your identity is also seen throughout “Slang In America” as well. Speaking the same common language but in a different manner, such as slang, is an example as to how different forms of language is what makes you who you are, and how one is perceived by others. In which is all centered around your cultural background and the people you surround yourself…
The play “A Raisin in the Sun” reflects on Youngers, an African-American Family, who lived on the southern side of Chicago in the late 1950s. Through his song “ Word Crimes,” Al projects his view on the literary repose of the modern cyber based society that is the world today. The often use of humor and criticism helps to teach the audience the proper use of grammar and spelling ,as well as, shed light on the ignorance of the English language that some of the youth and early adults of today posses. His use of humor is a very good tool to convey his point and view on the topic of awful English habits that have become apparently more common across society’s youth and makes his song all the more useful in his favor.…
