Christopher Columbus, a Spaniard, wrote a letter describing his first voyage to the Americas. His point of view is easily found. Columbus makes references to the King and Queen (most likely Queen Isabella of Spain who funded the expedition) and his lord and savior. By the style he is using to write this, it is easy to tell this piece of writing was meant to be seen by an audience. On the other hand, a piece written by Antonio Vasquez de Espinosa, a Spanish Friar and Missionary, states all of the facts. They both talk on the topic of encountering the natives, Amerigo wrote his letter 43 years before the Spanish priest would write to King Philip II. Amerigo wrote his letter to be very matter of fact, using “we” instead of “I”, and stating what he thought had happened. He discusses the encounter with the natives, while 43 years later Bartolomé the Spanish priest, talks about the way that the Christians slaughtered the natives.
