In Dylan Thomas', Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, the wise, good, wild, and grave men share the common ground of fighting to stay alive and not giving in to the peaceful nature of death. In my opinion, the title explains to the reader about having a valiant battle against death as the title states, Do not go gentle into that good night. He is explaining to the reader that he wants someone to fight for their life and not to succumb to death. This made me do some preliminary research and I learned that Dylan Thomas had a multitude of health issues, some speculated that it could have been diabetes, pneumonia, a brain hemorrhage, etcetera that caused him to slip into a coma and die. This bit of information showed me that Thomas did not give
into death as he fought whatever medical problem until the very end, he did not give into death. After every stanza that introduces a wise, good, wild, and grave men ends with a line about fighting death until the end. For example, the text reads, “Though wise men at their end know dark is right….Do not go gentle into the good night”. (4-7). The poem continues, “Good men….. Rage, rage against the dying of light.
