Now, most scienctists agree that the human (Homo sapien) chain started out in Africa. They thought that because when they tested the ashes of the fossils that were buried by ashes near volcanoes, they could see how old the fossils were. The fossils that the scientists found were up to 4.4 million years old. Some of the fossils were chimps and some of them were humans because humans and chimpanzees are on the same line. What inspired her to be an archaeologists was because her father to took her to archeaologist sites every year. Louis and Mary met in 1933 and got married in 1936. Wooooow. It took 3 years for their dating to be finished. Anyway, they started studying Great Rift Valley. There were volcanoes in the area. When they erupt, the ashes burry all the fossils in the area. That’s why they thought it was a great place to dig for fossils. They found many fossils along there journey. Louis discovered the homo habilis. Then came the discovery of Lucy. Archaeologist Donald Johanson discovered a skeleton that was 3.2 million years old. He nicknamed her Lucy. His discovery showed that humans started walking on legs before they started using their brains. Back to the Leakeys: Sadly, Louis Leakey died in 1972.
