Today, the gang has spread from Central America to the United States, originating in Los Angeles and evolving across 32 states. For this particular paper I will focus on the gang’s membership in the United States alone. I will take an ethnographic approach to attempt to understand why people join the gang and what they wish to accomplish by doing so. I will key in on the main goals of the gang, reasons for brutality, and how they have managed to spread with such popularity throughout America.…
The author thinks that the problem of high murder rate in the U.S. is not because of guns, is because of gangs. Major cities, such as Chicago and Baltimore are condemned because gangs represent organized crime networks. Because of criminals killing others criminals America has a really high murder rate. Gangs increase the violence, that then became to a war between criminals. Gangs are to blame for the crimes and murders in the United States.…
In the life that we live we are surrounded by a lot of violence. Whether it’s with other people, groups of people or even sometimes domestic violence is all around us. Throughout the years the emergence of gangs in Maryland has been a major source of violence. And to make matters worse the youth are starting to join these gangs at very young ages. But there is something that can be done to stop the spread of even more gang related issues.…

The purpose of this research is to identify the sociological aspects and means in which individuals may use in order to affiliate themselves within a gang and their practices. The following research uses statistics and information given by police departments and the Department of Justice. I have searched for reasoning behind an individual’s decision to join a gang from a sociological perspective. It begins by defining a gang and what leads young individuals to a lifestyle and choice of joining these gangs. Sociological approaches are made in order to accompany these people’s decisions and to make sense of their judgment. Taking this information and research into consideration may direct future research on the aspects and decisions of social citizens in which influence them to join and be a part of a street gang.…
This paper deals with gang violence in the city of Chicago since the beginning of time. It takes a deep look into the history of Chicago gangs and how they interact today. Also the past problems the City of Chicago made when dealing with gangs and the problems that gangs today have and how Chicago has the worst gang problem in the country. Also how gangs have turned themselves into big, and lucrative enterprises most known for money. Also stated are possible solutions to stop or reduce violence of the gangs that all start off with teaching the young kids about gangs and gang prevention.…
Gang related violence in the United States has been a plague for the last several decades. The serious crimes such as murder, drug trafficking, extortion, assaults, and kidnapping can all be attributed to organized gangs. Of all the established and recognized gangs in this country, motorcycle gangs are among the most vicious and virulent group of criminals with no regard or respect for law enforcement or human life in general. Members of these organized clubs appear to be linked by a common bond and like interests.…
As the Globe and Mail states two weeks after the shooting in Toronto’s Eaton’s Centre, Police Chief Bill Blair sees the gang violence at its root (Globe and Mail, Aug 2012). Gang violence is the cause for the largest mass shooting Toronto has ever seen, but it is also the basis for any other reported shooting in the Toronto area, along with the rest of Canada. The solution is to prevent the young men in and around the communities with the highest recorded gang violence from joining or going down the path of gang violence. Catching them at a young age is easy, young men are easily influenced and this is generally how they join a gang in the first place. Therefore, if society gives those…
Thesis: The necessary work has not been done to get rid of gangs. The elements that create gangs are social, political, psychological, economic, and spiritual and without confronting this issiues cannot be fixed. The governors, school officials, politicians and many others who are in charge of protecting the community and make it a better place are not approaching the problem in the best way. “Thousands are hacking at the branches of the problem; few are working at the roots.”( Thoreau); Many who wish to eliminate gang violence are not willing to do it from the root; they are either too frightened, or find it is easier to blame the gang members than to blame themselves.…
They have poisoned our streets with drugs, violence, and hateful crimes. I have researched many different kinds of gangs to motorcycle gangs like the “Hells Angels” to the prison gangs such as the “Latin Kings”. Why is there gang violence, how does it impact our daily lives, and how can it be prevented? Gang violence, is the most organized as a well sophisticated crime that comes into play here in America as well as other countries.…
Gang violence practically consists of an organised group of general willing participants that perform acts of crimes; the severity of them differs according to agenda or convenience in availability in numbers or equipment. Gangs can perpetrate crimes such as prostitution, gambling, extortion, arson, theft to social attacks, assault, murder and terrorism etc. Despite the known history of previous Australian gang activity, petty clashes between young peoples though are misinterpreted as youth gang violence. The effects though, whether originated from gang membership or just from individual illegal activity on the streets between juveniles, are still severe to the current generation of society. But whether gang violence is subjected to ‘reality’ or ‘myth’, three main issues of intervention are recognised by the police force and surrounding community: Firstly, criminal acts displayed from youth gangs do exist and are a danger to the community, and almost inevitably provoke authorities to take action,…
Researchers used federal data in estimating that in 2009, “there are approximately one million gang members [in the United States]. (“Gangs Timeline.” n.p.). A million is way too high of a number, and since researchers made that estimate, the number of Americans in gangs has surely grown. The United States is caught in a downward spiral heading towards gangs having complete control of not only the inner cities, but the expansion of gangs makes the threat of gang violence in American suburbia a likely part of the future if something is not done to stop it. The solution to the skyrocketing gang problem is not through harsher penalties against gang crimes since it has not worked, it is through social service and community outreach programs to show gang members that there is a viable way out and to stop the problem from occurring in the first place.…
Gang violence affects about 60 percent of most households. Gang violence have affected many lives over the years. In the cities of Chicago, violence is emerging a lot as the years go on. Gangs in the city of Chicago first started about the 1970’s, with 970 murders in one year. Gang violence occurred within and across racial and ethnic lines throughout Chicago. In the late 1960’s powerful black and Puerto Rican gangs joined forces with political groups. According to a report by the office of juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, 23% of students aged 12 through 18 are being involved in gangs. About 46% of students who go to public schools are expected to be in a street gang. Large street gangs employ violence to control and expand drug distribution activities. Gangs engage in numerous acts of criminal activities; such as, assault, burglary, drive-by shootings, extortion, homicides, identification fraud, money laundering, prostitution, robbery, and weapon and drug trafficking. Gang violence in Chicago is caused by drill music and gangs; results in families losing lives and decrease in human population; and can be solved by more police forces.…
"Once found principally in large cities, violent street gangs now affect public safety, community image, and quality of life in communities of all sizes in urban, suburban, and rural areas. No region of the United States is untouched by gangs. Gangs affect society at all levels, causing heightened fears for safety, violence, and economic costs" (In The Spotlight) As the quote above shows, gangs and everything that goes with them has spread all over the United States and is now one of the major issues the U.S. faces. There are estimated to be about twenty-nine thousand, four hundred gangs and seven hundred fifty six thousand gang members all throughout the U.S. Also, there are thousands of other…
In the recent year of two-thousand sixteen, the city of Chicago’s gang homicide rate has been the highest in over fifteen years, and is said to be the deadliest year. Hundreds of innocent people have perished from being caught in crossfire, and no one is trying to stop it. The violence is absolutely out of control and it needs to be stopped.…
