Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut can be described as a novel that is interesting, creative, and well-written. Kurt Vonnegut writes this novel with a satiric voice but also expresses many other emotions as well. The first chapter is very unique because of the way Vonnegut tells the story of how he came about writing this novel and introduces his wartime friend Bernhard O’Hare. Although it seems like it might not belong at all, this chapter gives an introduction that might be needed for a character like Billy Pilgrim. Many times you can see how important Vonnegut is in the story and how important the story is for him.…

Within the story of Harrison Bergeron, there are many different aspects that Kurt Vonnegut wrote about. However, some are easier to identify compared to others. Some of the things and aspects that Vonnegut wrote about in Harrison Bergeron can be clearly identified by the words stated whereas other aspects written about take a bit of thinking about. Beginning with what was directly stated. In the year of 2081, everyone was required to be equal by the government. If some citizens were more better in ways such as stronger, more beautiful, or more intelligent, the government prevented equality by having those citizens to wear “handicaps”. An example of how we can obviously see this is when George and Hazel are watching T.V.. It is stated that,…

Imagine a writer who never shares his writing and who represents fiction as non-fiction. Imagine a young man who wants to be a writer so much that he believes his own "lies." In Tobias Wolff's novel _Old School_, the author poses an ethical dilemma to the reader concerning issues of personal identity and honor. Taking place at a preparatory school in the 1960s, the unnamed narrator struggles with moral issues that surround the development of his authentic self. His desperate desire to win the school's literary contest to meet the famous author Ernest Hemingway results in the narrator's singular experience of plagiarizing another writer's short story. Throughout the novel, Wolff demonstrates that…

Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut and Anthem by Ayn Rand should both be classed as dystopias due to the sign of symbolism tone and characterization. the symbolism in Anthem by Ayn Rand would be the light. Light represents the truth in anthem. Liberty 5-3000 becomes the Golden one and Equality 7-2521 becomes Prometheus after they found the light because it gave them life. If Equality never made the light and showed it to the House of Scholars then he would have never ran to the forest where he found the house that gave him the light to life. The symbolism in Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut would be Harrison takes off his handicapped. This is the symbolism because when Harrison took off his handicaps it showed everyone that it's ok to be yourself all so it showed everyone what Diana Moon Glampers is like.…

While the short film, 2081, has many common similarities with its adapted version of the short story, Harrison Bergeron, they differ from each other to a certain degree. They contrast from each other because the short film includes an unplanned scene where Harrison hid a bomb that activated the signal to reach all televisions when triggered, while the short story did not have this very important aspect at all. This is very critical because the bomb represents the most crucial act that humans use everyday: dependence.…
