John Alvin Ray, or best known as Johnnie Ray, has an incredible story. Johnnie was a popular singer/songwriter back in the 1950’s. Sure, this is an accomplishment for him, but his songs alone weren’t exactly what made him who he was. Johnnie Ray had a past, present, and a future and he knew what and where he wanted to be a few years down the road, and made it happen.…

After watching the videos and reading the synopsis of "The Adventures of Jasper Woodbury" I am extremely excited about this curriculum and curriculum that is similar to this. This type of instruction allows for endless possibilities to enhance and engage student learning. This type of video-based instruction represents the new age of technology. It allows teachers to break away from the traditional chalkboard or smartboard lessons. I feel as though it is very important for schools to incorporate as much differentiated instruction as possible. Each student has a unique learning style and ways in which he or she learns best. Differentiated instruction such as these video-based lessons help to meet the educational needs of several students who…

Early in the novel, Johnny’s short temper and pride show his more immature characteristics of his personality. Johnny’s pride restricts him from talking to people or asking for help. For example, Johnny refused to show Dr. Warren his maimed hand because his pride prevented him from doing so. Furthermore, when Johnny selfishly spent most of his money that was given to him by John Hancock, he would not visit his more responsible friend, Rab Silsbee, until they were equals. This also demonstrates that Johnny’s pride causes misfortune. In addition to pride,…

In “Jean Toomer and Cane: ‘Mixed-Blood’ Impossibilities,” Gino Michael Pellegrini analyzes the role that Jean Toomer’s political aspirations and biracial heritage played in the development of Cane. Pellegrini argues that Toomer’s sole purpose for writing Cane was to illustrate his personal experiences as a biracial, American man with the hopes of drawing attention to the plight of the mixed-race and that his efforts were widely misinterpreted. I agree with Pellegrini’s critical interpretation of Cane and could recognize instances of objectification, isolation, and powerlessness that align with Toomer’s own experiences.…

The Sons of Liberty were shopkeepers and artisans that did not agree with what England was doing with the American colonies. The small group of men began with small protests and eventually grew in size. Eventually the Sons of Liberty led a large group in dumping tea in the Boston Harbor. The men who started the Sons of Liberty were not prominent leaders in the community but regular working men. On the night of the Boston Tea Party, there were over five thousand people that met at the Old South Meeting House on December 16, 1773. It is amazing to think that the rebellion started with a few regular people and it grew into a huge amount of people- over five thousand.…
