Summary Of Lather And Nothing Else By Hernando Tellez

The barber in the story of “Lather and Nothing Else” by Hernando Tellez is a very interesting character. He is a revolutionary whose day-to-day profession is one of a barber and to act as a spy for the rebellion within the town. His troubles begin when Captain Torres, the leader of the troops stationed within the town, walks into his shop for a shave. Unbeknownst to the captain, the two are sworn enemies that fight on opposite sides of the regime. With this knowledge, one can see that his actions and character within the story were honourable, conceited and morally just. I deem them to be honourable as he refuses to “stain his hands” with “lather and nothing else”(Tellez 346). He is a barber before anything else and respected the boundaries
