Clients and Witnesses are key factors in a legal cause. However the roles they play and how the legal team deals with them during the overall case, are drastically different.…
The growth in the size of the legal profession reflects several spurts in the number of students enrolling in law school since the early 1960s, and in the first half of that period there was a substantial increase in the…
The law and its ever-changing characteristics intrigued me at a very early age. Growing up, I wanted to be a lawyer. My goal of becoming a lawyer was a bit impractical due to my procrastination after high school graduation and because of my past financial situation. Not knowing what to do then, led me to join the Navy. The Navy afforded me the opportunity to go to school while working and it also allowed me to change jobs so that I can choose something closely related to my goal of becoming an attorney. That’s when I became a Paralegal, or “Legalman” as the Navy calls it.…
A. Lawyers sometimes view their clients as not telling them the whole truth about a case and at times seeking to manipulate their lawyers. Defendants may view their attorneys as not fighting hard enough for them and seeking to accommodate the judge and prosecutor.…
Paralegals will never be held to the same standards, or put through the same punishments as a supervising attorney, but when dealing with an ethical dilemma, they will most likely lose their jobs. An example of high ethical standards will give a paralegal influence beyond measure. Therefore, the paralegal should be smart - be…
This summer I had the privilege of job shadowing a great lawyer and family friend, Nancy Bonilla. I have nearly always wanted to be a lawyer, and in all honesty I was a little concerned that after watching a real court hearing, and seeing all the work that lawyers actually have to put into each and every case, I would no longer wish to become a lawyer. However my fears were removed entirely as soon as I walked into her downtown Fort Worth office; the day I had arranged to job shadow Mrs. Bonilla, she had a court hearing in Denton, so immediately upon my arrival I was exposed to the last minute stress of getting the clients case in order. I was able to help Mrs. Bonilla with getting her paper work…

The 1800’s legal education and licensing requirements pales in comparison when pitted against today’s academic and accrediting process for lawyers. Today’s curriculum demands more from the students. Scott Turow stated that his first year of law school left him mentally and physically exhausted (Neubauer & Meinhold, 2013). In sharp contrast, Abraham Lincoln believed that one could join the legal world by simply reading a few selected books. However, today anyone can become a lawyer as long as they meet the minimum requirement such as graduate from college, pass the LSAT and apply to law school (Neubauer & Meinhold, 2013). In contrast only the social elite were allowed to become lawyers in the 1800’s. Nevertheless both time periods offered night…
The distinctive voices, inherent in any text/s, can be deconstructed to develop an understanding which may authorize, confront or challenge society’s values and/or beliefs within a given context. A text may promote obvious distinction between the authorial voice and character's viewpoint. This is important in life as our understanding of life, society and the world we live in is shaped by our interpretations of the spoken word. The texts “The life and crimes of Harry Lavender” by Marele Day and “Parrot” a scene out of a BBC skit written by John Clease both clearly explore the variety of distinctive voices from the impoverished criminal to the empowered, educated lawyers. The language is familiar and relevant to the audience and engages, entertain and inform. The characterization and purpose is enhanced through the diverse dialogue to explore important issues in life such as corruption, manipulation and justice.…

A defense attorney is the advocator to the accused. In his defense, the attorney will advise him or her as well as to make sure their rights are not violated. According to the American Bar Association they must also give quality representation, and not misinterpret any facts or laws to the court or to the accused. Andrew Cohen from “Why Defense Attorneys Matter” explains that even though the accused is unpopular, or despised they need to have representation for our Constitutional principles to succeed. We must try to hold the police and prosecutors accountable, defense attorneys can be related to the Bill of Rights because, the Bill of Rights was designed as a counterbalance to the enumerated power of the government that was listed in the…
When I was 16 years old, something struck within me. As I sat in my public safety classroom, I was absorbed by all of the content that was coming towards me. The laws, the court cases, and the case studies piqued my interest. That moment, I realized that I have found my calling. Therefore, I have decided to pursue a profession as a Paralegal, based partly on my teacher, Don Hammond. Given my determined, technological, organizational skills the law career is the correct suit for me. I look forward to begin my life and profession as a paralegal.…

Lawyers are not doing their job right. Lawyers choose to refuse to new work cases, if workloads are so excessive that it would impair their defense preparation.
