Meloy is very frank with regards to talking about his disability. Which probably cause a lot of stirring with the reader especially when he makes a bold statement like that. Most people are told that their disability doesn’t define them but when Meloy says that his does it kind of throws people off. What he is trying to say is that his disability only defines him to an extent. Meloy is saying, though, that he still lives with it but it doesn’t fully hinder his life. When it came to schooling Meloy had to figure out what would work best for him and how it would help him.
Meloy talks about multiple things that he had figured out about his schooling and education. One thing was three general strategies that would help him work through things. “1. Find a way to do it. 2. Find a way to look like I can do it. 3. Find a way to live without it” (Meloy, 2013). This is a perfect little system for trying to handle something you may not know or know how to deal with it.
