Summary Of Mr. Singh Case
I told Mr Singh that his allegation that I was conspiring with my client to cause loss to his client was discourteous and unsubstantiated. He explained his basis for believing that my client and I were co-conspirators because his client had told him that I was ‘good friends’ with Mr Merchant, and was aware of the sale of his property. I advised Mr Singh that his client was mistaken, and that I was neither good friends with Mr Merchant, and neither did I have knowledge of the sale of his property until I tried to contact him myself on the property and was unsuccessful. I also explained that I had had no contact with Mr Merchant since his last instruction, which was prior to notification of the failure to pay the monies owed.

Facts: The accused was driving his car without the required laminated taillights when officers pulled him over late October 2004. The police asked Shankar for his licence, registration, and insurance. The accused handed over a licence in the name of Jason Singh, the insurance information handwritten on an informal yellow sticky note, and a photocopy of the vehicle registration. When inquired about the spelling of name, Shankar misspelled Singh as ‘Sing’ and gave the wrong unit number for the home address. Based on these wrong answers, officers arrested Shankar on the basis of misleading them; officers physically removed Shankar from the vehicle and searched him. The officers discovered bulletproof vests on Shankar’s person, Shankar justified these on the basis of self defence and protection. When searching the vehicle police found numerous weapons including two guns, a hunting knife, and ammunition. Shankar did not testify in court, and was charged and convicted of two counts of possession of loaded, prohibited firearms and public mischief. Shankar appealed his conviction to the Ontario Court of…

As the world's population grew, so did political and economic instability, as well as major international conflicts. Tensions between countries and cultures tightened, and eventually and inevitably, one of them attacked. This terrorist act brought with it the panic and chaos fuelled haze that was post-911 Australia, and similar to many situations in the past, the fear and vulnerability associated with the community allowed the government quite a substantial amount of political power. This atmosphere of fear and ignorance lead to several incomplete and somewhat extreme pieces of Anti terrorist legislation to be passed by the Howard government, in order to ensure the safety of all Australians, or so they said. Dr Mohammed Haneef a doctor working in Queensland on a skilled migrant visa, soon found himself a victim of these laws. When two Indian men attempted to bomb an airport in Glasgow, UK, Mohammed Haneef became a suspect in the eyes of the Australian Federal Police, and was arrested shortly. Several blunders and misinterpretations by the AFP lead to the wrongful detention and charging of Dr Haneef, a man who spent a total of 12 days in detention without being charged and had his visa unfairly revoked during his trial. Haneef was eventually released and all charges were dropped against him, when the Public Prosecutor determined that there was no legitimate trial against him. However, the course of events that Dr Haneef experienced brought to light the glaring dilemmas associated with Australia's radical Anti Terrorist laws and corresponding government agencies.…

    Chappelle Case Summary

    • 1705 Words
    • 7 Pages

David Chappelle is an American comedian, actor and producer. He is best known for his hit TV series the Chappelle Show. In December 2005 Chappelle, his production company Pilot Boy Productions, Inc., and Focus Feature LLC (purchaser of the film Dave Chappelle’s Block Party) were sued by Chappelle’s former personal manager, Mustafa Abuelhija, for breach of two oral contracts. Abuelhija filed a complaint against Chappelle, his Pilot Boy Productions, Inc production company, and Focus Feature LLC, in the United States District Court specifically the Southern District of New York, demanding a jury trial. In the preliminary statements the Plantiff, Abuelhija, highlights the terms of both oral contracts in detail. It appears, should all the facts presented within the complaint be verified to be true, that there were two legally-enforceable oral contracts in place between the Plantiff and the Defendant (Chappelle, and his Pilot Boy Productions, Inc.), only one of the oral contracts involved Focus Features LLC. It also appears that one of the oral contracts had been breached and Abuelhija was concerned about an anticipatory breach of the second oral contract (LaMance, 2014). The…

These aspects build up one’s personality and lifestyle.…

During the classical era, China and India emerged as the two powerhouses of the East asia region. Despite both empires using similar tools to implement social and political control, there are minute differences in beliefs and regional demographics that change the way these techniques are implemented. Both cultures used military dominance, a strong leader figure and previously established social hierarchies to remain in power. However, while the Chinese formed a strong, centralized government during the Han Dynasty, the Gupta remained fragmented and regionalized. Furthermore, while both cultures used moral codes and social guidelines to maintain social order, the Indian form was more religious, while Chinese version remained secular and focused on Confucianism and Daoism. Despite their differences, both empires were effective at maintaining order, and there methods are still being used today.…
