Two years ago, I was trained to become an open-heart nurse though; I am an experienced nurse, I had to start as a novice nurse. Training was divided in 2 phases, first one focuses on classroom setting learning policies and procedures, protocol involved, interpretation of hemodynamics numbers and its corresponding interventions and knowing who is who in the department. Second phase, focuses on case of patient population including pathophysiology, prioritizing care and actually seeing a patient being operated on by the physician from the beginning of the procedure all the way to the end. …show more content…

Under open-heart program as a novice nurse, I was not attuned to subtle patient changes and elements outside what the textbook tells me. Looking back after 2 years I could say that I was able to change my intellectual orientation, integrate and sort out knowledge and refocus decision-making based on perceptual awareness. Currently as an expert nurse, I could be looking at the hemodynamics numbers on the monitor and I could tell which one requires immediate attention and what intervention needed to be
