Are you the brother or sister of a criminal mind? That’s life for Paul Fisher, and even though his brother, Erik, is technically a criminal, he gets all the attention for their parents. Paul is legally blind, but doesn’t remember the incident of how it happened. He just believes what his brother says: He stared right at a solar eclipse for too long. The story opens in the now empty Paul’s old home, where Paul and his mom pack up their last things to head to their new home in Lake Windsor Downs, Florida in Tangerine County. This story, by Edward Bloor, is a great realistic fiction example of our world and the people in it. The story takes place around the late 1900’s. No cell phones or video games are mentioned in the story, only a PC and a house phone. Paul Fisher is shy and drowned out by his brother’s glory due to his parents’ obsession of making him become a football star. But he is determined to change that in his new school and his …show more content…

Paul is devastated, but Erik’s football glory is as strong as ever. But due to miraculous events, Paul’s portable classrooms are swallowed by a giant sinkhole, and Paul is able to go to the other Middle School in the area, Tangerine Middle. Paul joins the soccer team there, and his papers for his handicap are somehow “lost” from the trip in between schools. Paul is clear to go, and is ready for a fresh start at a new school and a new team. Tangerine is a much more serious place for students, and it becomes too much for Joey, and he eventually leaves to go back to Lake Windsor. But moving to this new school triggers events later in the story that gives Paul some flashbacks of his early life, and the truth to his handicap is

The parents decision to move from Houston to Tangerine made Paul Fisher more of an outsider. They moved there because his father had just accepted a position as county engineer and where his older brother, Erik, a talented placekicker, can pursue options for scholarships in a state fanatic about football, Paul does not easily fit in.This decision was mostly one sided as they overlooked Paul’s future as a soccer player and focused on his brother's football “Dream”. When Paul was in Houston he was the starting goalkeeper and the star on his school soccer team and had enough potential to become a very good soccer player but…

There were many important characters in the book Tangerine. Five characters that I considered to be important are Paul Fisher, Joey Costello, Erik Fisher, Paul’s mom, and Paul’s dad. Paul Fisher is a 7th grader that has moved from Texas to Florida. He had coke-bottle cap glasses from some incident he can’t remember. He also plays goalie for soccer. Joey Costello is Paul’s new friend. Joey’s brother, Mike, had passed away earlier in the book, from getting struck by lightning while playing football. Joey also enjoys playing soccer. Erik Fisher is Paul’s older brother. He is a big-shot football player wherever he goes. Paul’s mom is part of the Homeowners Committee and likes to stick up for things she believes in. Last, but not least, is Paul’s dad. He liked to brag a lot about his son Eric, and is the new Director of Civil Engineering for Tangerine County.…

Fisher’s choice of letting Paul go to Tangerine Middle School. Paul’s self-concept is that he knows that he can make goalie if he just has a chance to try out for the team. So, when his parents let him go to a new school, he is delighted because he knows he will play an important position on the team. He will also able to show his parents that Erik is not the only star in the family. Paul says to his parents: “Do you understand? I wouldn’t be the water boy there. I’d be the goalie,” (Bloor 94). This conveys that Paul knows his self-concept that he will be able to make the team because he stated, “I’d be the…
