Summary Of Pebbles: The Sound Of Music And The Life Cycle Of Butterfly
This article is about helping ELL’s students by teaching them science. According to the article student’s works well with science because they are doing projects and that is hands on work. They are not only seeing, listening, but actually doing it. They have “a research-based science curriculum for grades K-8 developed at the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California at Berkeley,” called FOSS which stands for “Full Option Science System.” “There are three ESL summer school science units that they use. They are: Pebbles, The Sound of Music, and the Life Cycle of Butterfly- they have been developed through collaboration with ESL and Science teacher.” But this article is about The Life Cycle of Butterfly where he students focus on the monarch butterfly caterpillars, milkweed, and the teachers would show poster of the life cycle etc. The teachers would make connections with the students for example what does butterflies reminds you of; some students would say they are colorful and very pretty. …show more content…
The teacher would show them pictures, they would read books fiction and non-fiction. And the students use words relating to butterflies such as pretty because they are so colorful, and they know that the butterflies are always on flowers. So with that information the teacher knows where they are and they are able to build on the knowledge they already have. And to make sure the students understand what is being taught to them they would do an activity by drawing the butterfly and labeling it. And have discussion in class about the butterflies as
