Summary Of Ramanujan Tests, Allies, Enemies?
Tests, Allies, Enemies
Ramanujan had always lived in a tropical climate in his hometown and had his mother to cook for him but now he had to face the English winter, and he had to do all his cooking to adhere to his caste’s strict dietary rules. As he was a pure vegetarian, wartime shortages made things worse (Marianne Freiberger, 2015). Having crossed the threshold, the hero is tested and faces the challenges in the special world as is said by Campbell in his theory of hero’s journey. I believe that all the hero’s face tests in their journey to success, Ramanujan’s tests come in the form of his daily diet.

In 1918, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, the second Indian admitted to the Royal Society, following Ardaseer Cursetjee in 1841. At the age of 31, Ramanujan was one of the youngest Fellows in the history of the Royal Society and he was elected for his investigation in “Elliptical functions and the Theory of Numbers.” On 13 October 1918, he was the first Indian to be elected a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge (Srinivasa Ramanujan, n.d., para. 8). The hero takes possession of the rewards won by facing death by creating records in the history, this is in conformity with Campbells theory. I feel encouraged to invent various theorems and equations in mathematics and create histories in the world as Ramanujan had accomplished in his journey by facing the …show more content…
For example, his work on the highly composite numbers started a whole new line of investigations in the theory of such numbers. 100 years after Ramanujan’s death, all his theorems have been proven right, there had been greater appreciation of Ramanujan’s work and brilliance, and that his work was now pervading many areas of modern mathematics and physics (Ramanujan, n.d.). Ramanujan’s rebirth in the form of his findings in mathematics leads to a major outbreak in the field of math and this is exactly what Campbell states in his theory. Although Ramanujan is dead physically, I believe that his theorems and various formulations in mathematics makes him immortal in this world

He then proceeded to make many dietary changes, including: cutting off grains and food, denying himself starches, subsisting on pine needles, and then after 30 years he would only swallow a pebble occasionally. He abstained from alcohol, meats, fruits and to ward off colds he ate hot pepper and ginger. To ward off other transcendents, he chewed garlic. Though this is a Buddhist miracle tale, the account draws heavily on the convergence of many Buddhist and Daoist beliefs. We have seen a similar emphasis on austere diets for Buddhist exemplars in Kathryn Ann Tasi…
