He begins to speak in a very low voice and confides in Roxane the things he has always longed to tell her. Roxane became very moved by Cyrano’s poetry. Christian cries out from beneath the balcony and asks for a kiss. Thus, Cyrano stands beneath the balcony again and persuades her to kiss him. Christian climbs up to receive the kiss. This scene is very meaningful and important for the purpose of expressing how much Cyrano really loved her. In this scene you see the depths of which Cyrano is willing to go to not only make the women that he loves happy, but to see how far he is willing to make himself unhappy for the sake of his friend’s happiness. This moment is a big display of emotion. Voice will be a huge part of how I will stage this play. When Christian is talking to Roxane, it will be awkward pauses because they are not his words. This is the first time you get to see Cyrano for the man he is. He starts off very confident. He has always been insecure about his nose, but he always puts on a front. He acts and poses as if he is very confident, but he is not. Throughout the play, we get to see Cyrano’ weakening self-confidence and self-esteem, but his appearance is the reason why. This is the first time we get to see Cyrano so when he is introduced and we actually get to see his face, I will shine the spotlight on him. He will get all the attention. The light will never leave Cyrano, but I want another light on Valvert. Cyrano will be dressed differently than
