I find from this reading book that the love between the brothers is complicated. They each care for one and other, but they're not really brother unless you count them as a brotherhood. Dairy as an example as Ponyboy claims, "I never could please him. If I brought home B's, he wanted A's, and I if I brought home A's, he wanted to make sure they stay A's," even though Ponyboy can't see it Dairy just loves him and is trying to protect him, even though he's a little harsh. Soda loves both of them and he is always trying to keep the peace in between each other in the household, and without him, the family could not stay together. Now Johnny is the one who cold always have a little love, as the book says his parents have always treated him disrespectfully "his father was always beating him up and his mother ignored him, except when she was hacked off at something."
Danger comes around in every corner in this book and it seems like defending yourself is sometimes the best way.
