The reason this conversation remains is because it is not possible to prove any thing scientifically. As Maggie Cutler wrote in The Nation ‘One of the reasons so many media violence studies have been done is that the phenomenon may be too complex to study conclusively. There’s no way, after all, to lock two clones in a black box, feed them different TV, movie and video-game diets and open the box years later to determine that, yes, it was definitely those Bruce Lee epics that turned clone A into Jesse Ventura, while clone B’s exposure to the movie Babe produced a Pee Wee Herman.” (Cutler) This quote explains the difficultly of proving this relationship, because we can not measure against a clean sample. This means that there are no…

Connected within this repressive system, Hogan’s work critically explores the destruction and exploitation of the environment. Broad in scope when confronting the topic, she gives the reader a strong sense of the issues faced in regard to the natural world. Providing clarity to Hogan’s worldview, she juxtaposes that which troubles her against what she views as the correct way to be in the world. She is sharply critical of Western values for covering “the American continent with a view of the natural world that did not accept the Earth was alive and that all species were sentient.” Within the dominant view, the destruction of life is inherent.…

The book “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle”, written by Avi Wortis has one main purpose. That purpose is for the readers to understand what truly happened on the “Seahawk”, the ship which Charlotte rode on. Remember the Baby is a radio drama that is taken from The Truth, a website that have the fictional audio stories. Like this podcast, it is based on a true story performed by Ann Carr, telling us about Ann, who gets a stroke while babysitting her sister's baby. Enhanced by sound effects, the story emphasizes Ann's struggle during the moment she gets a stroke. Based on my understanding, she is able to fight back and seeks help because she hears the baby's cry. Then, the story ends with a tuneful music that evokes the value of how love can save one's life.…

Flashbacks were used within the novel at various intervals. Multiple characters in the novel had flashbacks from their past. An example of one is on (pg. 190) where it said “Provided he talked like Phil and called her darling, she was happy to kiss him. In Carol’s voice she said ‘I love you so much,’ and in Phil’s voice he said he loved her, too. He wished he had the nerve to say it in his own voice.” Which was a flashback from Ron when he was 11; “Carol” was 9 year old Jenny, whom he clearly had feelings for. The reader could understand then why Ron fell in love with Rachel so fast (she reminded him of his first love). One could get a better sense of Ron’s motives and why he had such hopeless love for Rachel. Gowdy used dramatic irony as well.…

When she wrote Charlotte: A Tale of Truth, she wanted to protect vulnerable young women from doing the wrong thing. She wrote, “Oh my dear girls—for to such only am I writing—listen not to the voice of love, unless sanctioned by paternal approbation: be assured, it is now past the days of romance." Rowson felt that women should know some of the basics to protect themself from rakes, and wanted to teach them to marry the right man. She felt as if young women were easily seduced by men. She warns the reader by writing “In affairs of love, a young heart is never in more danger than when attempted by a handsome young soldier.” For example, Charlotte decided to rebel against her parents and became romantically involved with Montraville, a man her parents disapproved of. Charlotte was a young naïve 15 year old girl that got seduced by an attractive man that promised “the world” to her. He promised to marry her but instead, took her to New York, and then he abandoned her and their unborn child. Charlotte’s fate went bad when she decided to follow her heart instead of her parents. She was seduced and betrayed by the man she fell deeply in love with, this is what Rowson was trying to prevent in the lives of her young readers. In Part II of Judith Sargent Murray’s essay she wrote, “Praise is sweet to the soul; we are immediately intoxicated by large…
