Intro- “Birthmark” and “Eye of the beholder” compare thematically Themes as universal as beauty and perfection present themselves in literature many times. Two such examples are within The Birthmark and Eye of the Beholder, one as a social construct and one presented as a result of an overbearing husband. Through their comments on what beauty really is and why we as humans seek perfection, the two share many traits, and their messages are similar, though they take different routes to get there.
