Summary Of The Book Thief

I chose to read this specific book because I read the back and was intrigued on how the author would tie the setting into the character’s story. The author wrote this book beautifully and it is something that really make people think about the past. The book pulled me in and didn’t make me want to stop reading. Also, this book is in my reading level which was a very important part of choosing this because I wanted to make sure that I completely understood the details and events in this story. This book takes place in Molching, Germany from 1939 to 1943. The setting and time makes this story take place during World War II. Were this family is located has such a major part in the plot line. One of the main character named Max Vanderburgh is Jewish. He is on the run, trying to survive and make it through this horrific time. The reason why Max’s religion is so dangerous is because during the holocaust Adolf Hitler targeted Jews. He destroyed their homes, towns, businesses, and worst of all sent them to death and work camps. There were over 6 millions jews that were affected and killed
Death is puzzled by Leisel because he sees her many times without her dying. He however has taken the lives of people she cares about very deeply. Every time death sees her he remembers the colors that surround her. He makes sure to point these out every time he sees her. He refers to Liesel as the book thief because she continually steals books. The first book she stole wasn’t even because she wanted to see it. She stole it to keep as a memento for the last time she saw her brother and her mother. Death was their when it happened because he was taking her brother’s life. He has called Liesel by that ever since. The title of the book wraps Liesel and Death together and represents that they are important to each other and the plot
