The Cold War occurred in 1945-1991 it was between the U.S and the Soviet Union. The U.S wanted to spread democracy while the U.S.S.R spread communism in Eastern Europe. The Iron Curtain that split Europe had two sides; the west was the democratic and the east was the communist. The author’s central argument is to help Eastern Europe turn into a democracy. His program was divided in 4 categories, have public figures to represent their country, go undercover to get information about the Soviet Union, separate organizations based on importance, and protect the people. The FEC also was a strategy to get Eastern Europe become democratic; by proving information to the people whether it was by journals, through the radio, or books. The author’s purpose was to show what happened in the Cold War that impacted Europe today. The author uses primary sources to demonstrate the impact of the U.S strategies in the Cold War, but uses secondary sources to reflect on their strategies.
