Discussion questions:
• Why does it seems that material self-interest is the norm?
• Why does people chase material goods even though there is evidences showing that once we have are basic
7.46 X 10-2 moles of HCl X 2 = .1492 moles of HCl used and the molarity would be .1492 moles HCl/ .05 liters HCl = 2.984 molarity. The amount of unreacted HCl in the solution is shown here: 0.1492 moles used - .0746 moles needed = 0.0746 moles unreacted. The amount of NaOH moles needed to completely react with this excess HCl is .0746 moles of HCl and .0746 moles of NaOH. To titrate the excess HCl you would need a molarity of 2.984 NaOH. In the equation Zn(s) + 2HCl (aq) = H2 (g) + ZnCl2 (aq) ZnCl2 is soluble. When using NaOH the equation would be ZnCl2 + 2NaOH = Zn (OH)2 + ZnCl and Zn(OH)2 has a low solubility.…
Inside the story of “Follow the Water” Georgie has a dream to be able to live on the marvelous planet of Mars, but when she finally reaches Mars she has to face reality. As a child Georgie had always imagined Mars being “a comfortable life with beautiful domed cities that have amazing views of the landscape.” Sadly when she got there with her space crew she was disappointed on so many levels. The autobiography of Dave Pelzer‘s life highlights issues concerning the youth. His novels, A Child Called “It” and The Lost Boy demonstrated the first awareness of abuse and mistreatment in the homes of blood related families and many other homes. Pelzer‘s story is not the first of many stories to depict a child trying to survive in a home where there is many afflicted injuries. These injuries can be classified into three categories: physical, emotional and mental. The work of Pelzer suggest that the nature of life consist of trials and tribulations and it is the responsibility of the individual to be resilient to every test.…

The controversial Ashley treatment to stop the growth of disabled children raised a lot of questions back in 2012. A good number of patients already implemented the treatment before it became public. Following this, Peter Singer wrote an article to criticize the legitimacy of the treatment. His essay, “The 'unnatural' Ashley treatment can be right for profoundly disabled children,” was meant to criticize the integrity of the treatment. His particular concern was the feelings of the children towards the treatment.…

Carolina Maria de Jesus' journal "Child of the Dark" is a complete account of five years spent living in a favela in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Carolina and her children spent their days and nights trying to survive in the most horrific of slums while the rest of the nation looked down upon them, scolding them for being poor and complaining about how the residents of the favela were nothing but a burden on the rest of the world. Rarely did anyone take pity on the single mother and her young, defenseless children. Random acts of kindness were few and far between, but these rare gifts of a few cruzeiros brought great happiness and eased the burdens of living in destitute poverty for a day or two.…
Young people are most often guided by their parents and guardians of what they should or shouldn’t do. However, some unfortunate ones are left alone to find their own paths. In their search of making their own destiny; some young people choose to fight against all obstacles to reach goals that will lead to a successful fortune, while some will walk an uneasy way and repeat themselves in the misery of self-destructiveness and self-sabotaging behaviors. In Tobias Wolff’s memoir This Boy’s Life, the author presents a life that is built up on continuous self-destructive decisions; making himself his own worst enemy and causing all kinds of pitiful situations which he hopes to change and evolve into a better self, only to once again find him fallen into the very trap set up by no one but himself.…
“The Doomed in Their Sinking” is more than a short piece of non-fiction by William Gass. William Gass talks about his parents and struggles to recognize the reasons behind suicide. Gass opens this essay, talking about his mother suicide but he is unaware of the reason why his mother did suicide? He not only talks deeply about suicide but also talks about what keeps us going, but questions is it love, beliefs, faith, hope, etc. Gass uses examples and reasons of suicide in this essay. “Definitions of suicide, like definitions of adultery, are invariably normative, and frequently do little more than reflect the shallowest social attitudes, embody the most parochial perspectives”(37-38). Gass uses similes, pathos, ethos, anaphora, and the way his essay written to justify suicide.…
In the novel Drown the author, Junot Diaz, uses allusion and simile to show the reader his theme that your family affects the rest of your life and your future decisions because they create values in which you live your life by. This novel conveys its theme when the narrator and protagonist Yunior takes after his father’s abusive tendencies in his own relationships. Yunior’s father’s abuse can be found in the ‘Fiesta, 1980’ chapter, where Diaz writes about how his father would hit him and he wasn’t allowed to look his father in the eye: “he expected your undivided attention when you were getting your ass whupped. You couldn’t look him in the eye either —that wasn’t allowed. Better to stare at his belly button, which was perfectly round and immaculate. Papi pulled me to my feet by my ear.” Papi was ready to beat Yunior without…
In Drown, a collection of short stories, author Junot Diaz presents readers with an impoverished group of characters through harsh, but vivid language. Through the voice of Yunior, the narrator throughout the majority of the stories, Diaz places the blame for Yunior's negativity and rebellious nature on the disappointment caused by his father and the childhood illusion of America. Diaz, through language and symbolism, forces readers into an emotional bond with Yunior while exposing the illusory nature of the American dream. Although intertwined with each story, "Fiesta, 1980" allows for a more concise discussion of Diaz's purpose.

Diaz's language, even at first glance, appears very different from conventional authors:

Mami's…

1. Anne Fadiman narrates the events of “Under Water” in first person. She prepares us by describing the setting and the conditions and intentions of the event. I think Anne wants us to realize that everyone on the trip, including the instructors, are human. Even though they knew there was no chance of saving Gary, or even possibly reaching his unresponsive body, they tried their hardest.…
The primary of delegation of authority is to make organization possible just as one person in an enterprise can do all the task necessary as an enterprise grows for the manager to exercise all the authority for making decisions. This is so because there is a limit to the number of persons Managers can effectively supervise and for whom they can make decisions. Once this limit is exceeded authority has to be delegated to subordinates.…
