Summary Of The Holy Longing

Christian Spirituality has been challenged and confused by different practical options .In the book The Holy Longing, the author Rolheiser mentions four nonnegotiable essentials that are important to develop a Christian spiritual life. According to the book, Jesus mentions these four components as the pillars of the Christian discipleship.
The first essential of Christian Spirituality is private prayer and private morality. I agree with the author when he refers to this pillar as an important feature. It helps to create a relationship with God. It is clear in God’s word, that human being are called to have a personal relationship with God. The greatest commandment for Christian is “Love God with all your heart, soul and strength “. For us Christians, private prayer and keeping God’s word are ways to love God. To live in a moral way is to act according to God’s commandments.“ A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and keeping of the ten commandments are still the centerpiece of spirituality”? (63).
