Ichabod made it known from the beginning that he was scared about riding alone at night. The only reason why Ichabod is scared to ride alone at night is because he is scared of the horsemen. The horsemen are scary looking and only come out at night time so it scares him. When Ichabod went to go see Katrina to try and win her over with Brom, Brom found out Ichabod was scared to ride alone at night. Ichabod had rode a yucky horse to go see Katrina so as this was all going on Brom was gathering this all in his head. …show more content…
Ichabod and Brom like Katrina, they are both fighting over her.
Well in old towns that they live in they always have gatherings and parties with lots of dancing. The dance is going very well for everyone, they are all having a good time but Brom. Brom is just sitting there in a corner watching Ichabod and Katrina dance away and have a great time. Brom is just sitting there because he is jealous of Ichabod, he thought Katrina liked him and not Ichabod. Well Brom also likes to play tricks on people so as he is sitting there watching Ichabod and Katrina dance, he is getting angry, but the way he handles his anger is to get revenge by tricking and scaring
people. During the party, everyone starts telling ghost stories, they are all sitting together telling stories. Brom tells a story and the Headless Horsemen on the bridge. He gets very detailed and makes sure that Ichabod is listening to his story. Later on, the party starts to go downhill and Ichabod gets rejected by Katrina, so he just leaves. When he leaves, remind you he is scared of riding during the night time, and that’s what he is doing. Everyone notices that Ichabod had left including Brom. As Ichabod is riding his horse, he sees a horseman on the same bridge Brom was talking about in his ghost story. Ichabod thinks it is all Brom is trying to play with him and he completely blames him because he remembers Brom tells his story and it is exactly what was happening to him, so he compares. Well Ichabod ends up disappearing on the bridge and it looked like there was ichabod’s head but it was just a pumpkin.
Everyone starts thinking it was Brom because they put two and two together like foreshadowing. Brom loves scaring people and tricking them, he knew Ichabod was scared of riding alone at night because of the horsemen, they had a competition on who is going to get Katrina, Brom gets jealous because Ichabod had danced with Katrina at the party, and he starts telling a story at the party and it ends up being exactly what happened to Ichabod. Brom is a very good horseman, so he would’ve pretended to be one of them to scare Ichabod. It all makes sense, but that is not what happened to Ichabod, it wasn’t Brom. It turned out to be the Ichabod just ran far away and went somewhere and became successful and lived his life, as Brom and Katrina get married and live happily ever after. All those details that make you think about the next scene, but something else happens is what Washington Irving loves doing during his stories, its called foreshadowing.
