Summary Of The Nightmare By Henry Fuseli

The first painting called, The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli, is a very dark and somewhat horrifying artwork of an occupied room. The only object of "light" in the room is the woman who is draped over a piece of furniture dressed in white. Behind her is a black mule that can be assumed as an impersonation of any demonic entity that wished to prey on her. Upon her belly is a devilish looking imp creature that would be considered a "demon" that is plaguing her dreams and turning them into nightmares. Another way this imp or demon could be causing her nightmares could be due to the fact that it is literally sitting upon her person. This could be impairing her ability to breathe and as such causing her nightmares. There is a sense of helplessness in this painting,
Their appearance alone is alarming, two entities are watching this woman sleep, one is even sitting upon her person. The intentions of imp are likely less than pure, in fact with the dark hues of red and black in the room there is a feeling of lust mixed in with the fear so his intentions are probably very malicious. The woman is draped over the chair in a fashion that makes her look as those she passed out from fright, her head and arms dangle off the bed in a manner that cannot be comfortable. One could even assume that she, upon seeing these demonic entities, passed out from fright. In this piece of art, Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee (Around a Pomegranate, a Second Before Waking Up) by Salvadore Dali, there are many examples of symbolism, elements, and principles. The painting depicts a woman in a very bright area sleeping on what appears to be a piece of rock. In the background of the picture is a giant pomegranate that has been ripped open by a very large fish
