One people One land that's how the whites saw it back in the early 19 hundreds of the Australian settlement. They didn't recognise the aboriginal people to be as people, to them they were but cheap labour. The Australian drama "No Sugar" gives us an insight into this through the lives of a few aboriginal people. The play shows how aboriginal people lose their way and become more reliant on the white man and how the whites used this position of power of them. One cannot survive unless one has ones' purpose. To aboriginal people their purpose was unrecognised due to the destruction of their past. Which meant that their purpose was lost and without that they faded away with help by the white man.…
I am Kaitlyn Luepann and I am portraying the fairy attendants Peaseblossom, Bottom, Cobweb, and the “jester fairy” Puck From William Shakespeare’s play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” I will be portraying all these characters as one character with characteristics of all four. The ways I am going to adapt the characters that I am portraying are for me to have a witty sense of humour, yet have common courtesy and manners, and have respectful body language and a humourous tone of voice because the three fairy attendants are very respectful, but Puck is humourous. How I adapt all of the fairies body language and tone of voice from the play to the modern day is to be a respectful Starbucks worker, who cracks jokes in a funny manner while customers…
The St. Ambrose University’s rendition of Cabaret was definitely a play to be seen. Meant to be a informational and reflection all piece, Cabaret almost forces the audience to place themselves in the characters’ positions. Through the anger and violence, sexuality and promiscuity, and the Nazi’s search for Jews, this play is designed to shake the audience up and make them feel uncomfortable. Using metaphors and exaggerations, it tries to press the issues that are caused by people turning a blind eye to evil. With my prior knowledge of the Holocaust and Germany during this time, it is easy for me to say that I would not have conformed.…
His roommate gives Shaun a lecture, similar to his talk with Liz, complaining that Shaun is being held back by Ed who refuses to leave, pay rent, or close the front door. Shaun’s roommate mentions that everyone at his office is out sick and that some crack-heads bit his hand on is way home the previous night. Shaun heads to his menial job where none of the other employees, who are mostly much younger high school kids, take him seriously. Shaun is left in charge due to the fact that everyone else mysteriously called in sick. His step father shows up at Shaun’s work to remind him about their dinner with his mum and suggests Shaun brings flowers to compensate for forgetting last time. This shows that Shaun is unreliable and irresponsible, even to his family. Shaun goes out to buy his mum flowers the day before their dinner, obviously not thinking. To no one’s surprise, Shaun doesn’t remember to make the reservation for his date with Liz so she dumps…

On November 20th I went to the Black Box theatre to see the play Seminar. It was a small production, and there were only five actors. Going into the play, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard the play was a bit raunchy, with explicit dialogue and provocative scenes. The play started out with four actors portraying college graduate writers. I loved how realistic the setting was; it really looked like somebody’s real apartment. The actors did very well portraying emotion, and every thing they did and said I could relate to. At one point, a girl was eating real ice cream and complaining on the couch to her friend. I thought it was funny how every girl could relate to that scene. I also liked that the actor had no problem devouring ice cream on top of memorizing her lines and acting at the same time. I would find it hard not to focus on anything other than the delicious taste of the ice cream.…
In seventh grade, I was first introduced into the theatre world by a group of my eighth grade friends singing a song I had never heard before. I did not have the time to ask them what it was called, but they told me it was from a musical called Wicked; the song in question was called “What is This Feeling?”, though at the time, all I knew was that it was about some people hating each other; back then, I’d believed it to be a love song between the Wicked Witch of the West and some unnamed male lead. I did not know anything about the musical other than it was about the Wicked Witch of the West and how she was supposedly good. This, being a novel concept to me, seemed idiotic, and I rejected the notion of such a silly musical. Since then, I had heard from numerous people that this was a great musical, and by the time I came to Parkview in 2009, I’d grown to be fed up with all of this talk of witches and scarecrows and something about gravity. I gave in, decided to try and find the soundtrack on iTunes, but, as these things go, I forgot about it almost immediately.…
The play starts out in the bedroom of Brick and Maggie, where Maggie is complaining to Brick about how Mae is making her monstrous children perform for Big Daddy. She goes on to rant about how Mae and Gooper are trying to cut them out of Big Daddy’s estate. Big Mama bursts in and screams the news that Big Daddy isn’t dying of cancer but only has a spastic colon. Once she leaves, Maggie informs Brick that the doctors lied to Big Daddy and Big Mama about Big Daddy’s condition and that he really is dying. Meanwhile Brick is hobbling around with an ankle injury he got from trying to jump hurdles at the high school while drunk the night before. After Brick makes a drink, Maggie catches him staring at her in the mirror and she then goes on to cry about how she is a “cat on a hot tin roof” because she is with a man that doesn’t love her. Maggie goes on to say she wishes she never confessed about her occurrence with the late Skipper and how she is jealous of the relationship Brick had with him. After Big Daddy’s birthday party is brought up to Brick and Maggie’s room, Bid Daddy and Big Mama start to fight about whether she truly loves him or not. After his argument with her he calls in Brick and starts badgering him about his drinking problem. Big Daddy suggests that Bricks relationship with Skipper was more than “friendly” and Brick gets so angry he confesses that he hung up on Skipper after a drunken confession and then Skipper committed suicide. Brick then reveals to Big…

A Midsummer Night Dream is a play written by the late William Shakespeare. This play is about a love triangle how one loves the other when the other does not like them until finally it all ends in a resolution, as they have a secret fairy world looking over at them, this play is almost like a mix between the fantasy world and the real! Bottom is one of the characters in this play, and in this play Bottom is a humorous and confident character, although being intelligent in other fields Bottom is not a very clever or educated man. Bottom and his fellow workmates are named the “rude mechanicals”, unsophisticated men but rather great tradesmen, working not with the mind but with the hands, though Bottom may be labeled a “rude mechanical” in many…
Hamlet thinks that Denmark is a really small place to him. Denmark is kind of constraint him to show himself as well. This is a foreshadowing that Hamlet will kill the king for strip off the nutshell which is cover on him now. Also is a metaphor, Hamlet uses nutshell to describe Denmark. For him, Denmark is not a warm home but a really big prison to him. All the things restrict his…
To kill a king, to avenge a murder, to save a nation, a task put into one man's hands. Hamlet is a man with "too much reason" and not enough action. Sick with love and disgusted by the lust which slowly engulfs his kingdom. He is surrounded by greed and death within a threatened Denmark. In Shakespeare's Hamlet, plot is constructed through various internal conflicts and a tense mood formed by the use of historical setting, psychological characterization, and ominous foreshadowing.…

“All The World’s a Stage” by William Shakespeare is a short poem comparing our lives and the many stages we have to a theatrical play and the many rolls an actor plays in them. William Shakespeare identifies the seven stages a person goes through in life. Infancy, the stage where he is a baby introduced to the world, crying and puking in the nurse’s arms. Childhood, this is the stage where he is growing up and starting school with no enthusiasm. The lover, this is the stage where he has a mistress and falls in love with her, while he tries to sing her a song he can’t look into her eyes because he’s so shy. The soldier is when he tries to keep his reputation thinking less of himself and more of others, and always being ready to fight. The justice stage is where he has gained wisdom and prosperity by the many experiences he had in life. The old age stage is when he begins to lose his charm physically and mentally, he also loses his firmness and personality. Finally, physical and mental lose and death, he begins to become dependent on others like a child and needs constant help from others to perform any tasks; he slowly loses his teeth, eyesight, and taste, until he finally dies. In this paper I will analyze the way William Shakespeare compares a person’s life and its many stages to a theatrical stage and the many rolls and actor performs, his tone, how he uses explicit details, imagery, repetition, consonance, and any other figurative language he uses in this poem.…
