America! America! The perfect place to dream, billboard country of perfect families. The place portrayed were liberty and justice stand, with a billboard of equality and people holding hands. America is like a torn piece of paper once has been ripped not being able to be brought together, just another crumbled piece of paper. Commentators say American Dream is a myth that is unachievable and inadequate that gives people hope but no access or resources to achieve. Many Americans assume to believe that the “American Dream” gives equal opportunity for everyone to achieve the dream. Conventional wisdom has it that the idea of an American Dream is inadequate and the American Dream isn’t equal and America’s society is judgmental. Most view America as the new “Eden” of beauty and unlimited opportunities. While the media paints America as achievable, indisputable American Dream isn’t realistic

In “America” the speaker rambled about change while coming to America trying to achieve the “American Dream”. The poem exemplifies quality is something worth fighting for as African Americans at the time would not just stand the hatred from racists .McKay uses lines such as “ as a rebel fronts a king in state/ I stand within her walls with not a shred” this displays that America is deeply rooted with racism. The tone of this poem has hope for change! Personification was used to identify in this poem. As the speaker uses lines such as “Her vigor/ her bigness/ her tiger’s tooth” comparing America to a complicated confused women. She has wronged him to change his point of view but later in the poem gives him strength he needs to fight against her oppression but also values freedoms giving him hope to win against inequality.
