Unfortunately, when he was paddling up stream a storm came in and made them have to paddle and get home as fast as possible. He was so selfish that he never gave up to make Doodle as normal as possible and not cripple. He is very cocky towards Doodle being able to walk and making him as normal as possible. When Doodle got up to show his parents he could walk and the narrator took all the credit for him walking and telling their parents that he did everything. They never thought Doodle could walk so when he showed people he could the narrator said he taught him everything. That was not the only way he was cocky because he was cocky other times to. He also thought Doodle could run through the storm and did not help Doodle get home. He wanted to just get home by himself and was cocky and had confidence that Doodle would get home by himself. Unfortunately, Since he thought that Doodle could run by himself when he finally went back after the storm had passed he saw Doodle sitting up against a tree with blood coming out of his mouth and he was dead. He was cocky to think that he did everything and after it all Doodle could do everything. In the story the narrator showed the traits selfish and cocky. He has to learn from mistakes and never leave somebody behind because something bad could happen to him. We can learn that you should never leave somebody behind and help them get wherever they are going and also never leave somebody behind because that is what we can learn from this character.
