Summary Of The Seventh Man
Have you ever watched your friend die right before your eyes? In the short story “The Seventh Man”, the seventh man tells his story about losing his friend K. to a big wave during a horrific storm. The seventh man has a hard time getting over his loss because K. was like a brother to him and because he watched it happen which is terrifying to anyone of any age. The seventh man should forgive himself for his failure to save K. considering he was only 10 years old. The seventh man did all that he could do, it's not like he stood there and didn’t say anything to try to help K. “Hurry, K.! Get out of there! The wave is coming” (Murakami 138). When he yelled to K. as he was running to get away from the wave, he didn't look back to see if K. was

The narrative by Doug Stanton is quite vivid in its elaboration, a fact that is contributed by the originality of his sources. Stanton in the narrative depends on the tales of Captain Charles Butler McVay III, Lewis Haynes who was the doctor in the ship and Giles McCoy who was a marine private. The most intriguing aspect of the narrative is that it is not entrenched on a war-history but rather an elucidation of men battling and attempting to survive the sea. The USS Indianapolis incident occurs in the Pacific after the ship delivers a mysterious cargo in the Pacific island of Tinian. On its way to Guam, a suicide torpedo launched from a submarine sinks the ship.…

All the Presidents Men was written by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. Between 1972 and 1976, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein emerged as two of the most famous journalists in America and forever became known as the reporters who broke the biggest story in American politics. When every other newspaper dismissed the Watergate Scandal as nonsense, these two men came together and uncovered the true story. Beginning with the investigation of a "third-rate burglary" of the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate complex, Woodward and Bernstein uncovered a system of political "dirty tricks" and crimes that eventually led to indictments of forty White House and administration officials. Their…

The book is about a boy who is very lazy. I guess you could call him a slacker. This boy doesn’t do anything, but sit in his room all day, and play video games. He doesn’t play any sports, he’s not in any clubs and he can’t even check on his mother's food while it’s in the oven, resulting in the house almost burning down. You can find all of this and more in the book Slacker, by Gordon Korman.…

During the reconstruction period after the American Civil War and the years leading to the Civil Rights movement, African-Americans were classified as an inferior racial group rather than as equals and individuals. African-Americans were considered “invisible” and looked down upon by whites in the North as well as in the South. In Ellison’s novel, The Invisible Man, the narrator’s name is never revealed. This further contributes to how the African-Americans were viewed as invisible and the narrator admits, “Or again, you often doubt if you really exist. You wonder whether you aren’t simply a phantom in other people’s minds” (Ellison 208). In the prologue, the narrator listens to Louis Armstrong’s song, “Black and Blue”, while in his basement…

The seventh man should forgive himself for his failure to save K. in the wave. I am sure of this because even tho the seventh man will feel it was his fault, it wasn’t, it was K.’s fault for being out in the dangerous storm in the first place. “Many rescue workers have lost their own lives saving others.” as stated in the story, “The Cost Of Survival”.…

In the essay “The Box Man”, Ascher contemplates isolation and solitude, and the significance it holds for different people. She describes the experience of three solitary people: a homeless man, and two ladies. The homeless man is the most alone of them all, by every meaning of the word; he has isolated himself from society, and by doing so, society has isolated itself from him. But despite all this, he would choose no alternative. The homeless man is certainly alone, but he is happy.…

The narrator has a younger brother whom is disabled, Doodle. The narrator decides he wants to teach Doodle to walk and run. This is one of his major flaws. He has too much pride to have a brother that cannot do a lot of things. This ultimately leads to the narrator leaving Doodle for dead in a large storm. The narrator does not take Doodle into account for his plan. He only cares that “[He] was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn't walk, so [he] set out to teach him” (Hurst 418). This is a very common flaw, and is one of the most dangerous. At the end of the story they are trying to outrun the storm and get back to their house. Doodle is running himself, and then falls. He calls out, “‘Brother, Brother, don't leave me! Don't leave me!’” (Hurst 425) but the narrator keeps on going, not wanting to give up on his brother. But it was a mistake. Doodle could not stay up himself, and lay there dying. Eventually the narrator gives up on his pride and comes back to help Doodle, only to find his corpse. The narrator’s pride was too much, and took the life of his…
