Summary Of The Story La Lloroona

There are various stories that go along with the name La Llorona, the weeping woman. Generally, all of them tell the story of a woman who killed her children and threw them in a river, then walked the riverbeds searching and crying for her children. Her search is not always motivated by the same reasons throughout the various stories but in every story La Llorona regrets the decision to kill her children. La Llorona’s story is often told with her given name being Maria. In one myth Maria, a peasant girl, falls in love with a Spanish nobleman. Their union was not blessed by the church and his family was completely unaware of it. His parents urged him to marry a high class woman and have children and eventually the nobleman agreed. During the wedding, Maria sat in the back veiled. In a crazy state of jealousy she returned home, killed her children, and threw them in the river. She then drowned herself. At entry to heaven, God or el Señor would not allow her to enter. He asked her where her children were and told her she could not enter without them. Taffy, the Sasquatch, is suspected to have gone to see La Llorona in chapter 21. Taffy left her children many years prior to meeting Ethan and Jennifer T. and she suspects they have died since she became a pet to the giants.
