Last Monday, FIU libraries welcomed people from the community that came to hear the presentation of Chanelle N. Rose, a history professor at Rowan University and FIU alumni. Her book, the Struggle for Black Freedom in Miami was the main source and focus of her lecture.

Each of the previous group of people were represented at some point by organizations with their own acronyms in any given decade.
Trule’sia Newberry said what she hopes the event has achieved for people who attended, “I wish that the lecture land a foundation for people about the historical aspect of black’s struggle in Miami”. I truly hope that the lecture will prompt them to pick interest in the subject and that they will be curious and willing to learn more about it in the future.
Many students showed interest in the lecture and talk about what they found helpful and crucial in the presentation. Trule’sia said that the chapter breakdown during Rose’s speech was quite helpful for her notes and future references. Trule’sia added that the lecture was a great opportunity to walk down the path of history for all the blacks in Miami. She mentioned that what she learned about the history of black here during the presentation, she could not have learned it anywhere
