Summary Of The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
Over the Summer, I will read the book The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell . I am not a big reader but when I do read I would like to learn something. In the past i enjoyed reading God's not Dead by Rice Broocks as well as You Are a Bada** by Jen Sincero. These types of books interest me because I enjoy being able to learn something new while still enjoying the story behind it. During the Selection Process I researched books i have read in the past to lead me to books i could read over this upcoming vacation. I selected 5 books, The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell , Blink also by Malcolm Gladwell, The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey and The Reminders by Val Emmich. I narrowed

The books that we discussed this week were two historical fiction books, Separate is Never Equal and Sylvia & Aki, and one history book, the Journey: Japanese Americans, Racism & Renewal. I love how the three books give me more than just the pleasure of reading. I also love the fact they have given me better understanding and more knowledge of the lives and the struggles of Mexican Americans and Japanese Americans in the past , in the ways that historical fiction books and a factual historical book do.…

I really enjoyed reading the book American Chick in Saudi Arabia by Jean Sasson. It opened up my eyes to see how different cultures treat the Islamic religion. I am from Bangladesh, which is also a Muslim dominated country. I was born in America, and have never been there until last summer. Just like Jean, I was an American chick in another country trying to figure out their culture.…

The book I chose for my book club is “The Skin I’m in”, written by Sharon G. Flake. After Sharon’s daughter was born it gave her the inspiration and dedication to write. Flake wrote short stories for her daughter, and read them at her daughter's daycare. She then wanted to write children's books with an African-American emphasis, this lead to her purpose of writing “The Skin I’m in”. The book was published in 1998 making this Sharon G. Flake debut novel. My reasoning for choosing this book was the content and environment the story is written in. It takes place in a diverse school and community, targeting younger students to love themselves the way God made them. I enjoy books that are sweet, simple, and straight to the point and this book accomplished that. It was easy to read and I can definitely recommend it to my future students to learn a valuable lesson.…

Assigned Summer reading has always been dreadful for me because the books are usually dull and uneventful. However, this year, I thoroughly enjoyed a few of the books I read. I heard so much about F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby’s famous plot, which heightened my excitement to read it. This book was different from books I had read previously, it was so well known not just for the plot but also the syntax and diction. Moreover, I read the chapters a few times, and was pleased at every turn of the page. Secondly, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison had an interesting perspective on slavery in the south. I was expecting it to follow the same course as books in a similar genre usually do, but I was able to relate the internal struggles of the…

When I first started reading I completely hated every aspect of it. It was boring, I couldn’t spend my time outside, and I thought that it was a complete waste of time. But then in 3rd or 4th grade I read my first Harry Potter and was completely blown away by how great it was. J. K. Rowling opened a completely new world to me. Suddenly reading became very interesting and I started reading more and more, at the same time I also started to get more and more interested in reading too. By 5th grade I reached a point where I read a new book every week. And even further if a book really interested me I was able to speed up this reading process even more. For example Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix interested me so much that I just read day and night for 3 days and after that I was finished with 766 pages of it. Another author that really inspired and influenced me before is Eoin Colfer with his Artemis Fowl series. This series just full on captured my attention completely after the first page. I just loved Eoin Colfer’s style of writing, and this book was just one of these books that after I picked it up and read the first page, I couldn’t stop reading anymore. To mention another book that had the same effect on me and that I recently read, this book was Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney. The book is about a boy a boy that finds an envelope containing scabs from Variola Major or smallpox in an old book. He then thinks that he infected himself and that he is also showing some of the system. After that he tries to kill himself in order to stop the outbreak and Epidemy of the highly contagious disease that could destroy the world, as we know it. Before he succeeds doing this, he gets kidnapped by international terrorists, who want to use him as a weapon to erase humanity. This book really made me think and also showed me how easily it would be possible that a highly contagious disease could spread easily around the world. Mainly because of…

During these years, I started reading longer books and series books. I remember reading A child called IT by Dave Pelzer. This book brought many emotions to me. It was mainly about a boy who was brutally beaten and starved by his mother who was very tortuous. Many of the “games” this mother did to “it” almost left him dead. This book inspired me to look out for my future students. This child did not get help from any of his teachers. It really opened my eyes to reality and showed me that a situation like this is possible. Till this day, I keep recommending this book. It gave me strong emotions but t was a book that I was not able to put down. The way it was written gave me a full image in my head. Growing up I realized that I was more of a visual learned. Therefore, I enjoyed the book since it brought images into my head. A small book taught me a big lesson that I will forever be grateful to have…
