In the short story “The Trip” by Laila Lalami, the author says; “ he tries to control his breathing, the heating of his heart in his ears”. He rests there for a little while, then pushes himself to his knees. That shows that
Murad doesn’t give up even tho he’s exhausted. This reveals that he’ll do anything for a better and new life. In addition it shows how hardworking and confident he is about making it. Another example is “ He wonders - if Aeiz can make it why not him?”. He then gets sent back and is confident that next time he’ll make it. That shows that he knows he can do anything if he puts his mind to it.
In the article “ OutLaw: My life as an undocumented Immigrants” by Jose Antonio Vargas, he shows that he doesn’t belongs in the home he’s in. He says “ I decided then that I could never give anyone reason to doubt I was an American”. This shows that he is now insecure because he doesn’t want people to think he’s different because he’s there illegally. In conclusion both of the story’s are about how they don’t stop giving up on there dreams.
