Summary Of Tillie By David Zindel
I don’t want this play to be set in a certain time period, because Zindel wrote the play so powerful yet vague with it’s time period/culture, that it could be taken place at anytime. I really like that because I think it’s a story that can be relatable to any generation of kids and adults of all ages. I want this be able to be as basic as possible with the time period and even season for this exact reason, so the audience can be able to connect with it better.
With that being said, I really want Zindel to be seen in this play. I know that the cast is an all female cast but the entire play is about his life, these are based of real, not particularly the events, situations when he felt lonesome, trapped, in anguish because of what his mother

I think there will be a couple of main lighting. The first will be the spotlight on/ in front of the stairs. This will mainly be on Tillie during her speeches and moments. Then the second will be during the day parts were all the light are on, it’s a little musty though because no natural light is coming through so there is a lot of yellow light, to indicate that the only light is coming from the lights in the house. Shows this idea of solitude, adding more elements to the idea of suffocation in an environment. Plus it could be interpreted that the reason for this as well is because Beatrice doesn’t want the outside world to see the messy world she’s created and because at the end of the play she says she hates the world. Which can be understood that she hates to see the world that is possible better than hers. Lastly, the third lightning will be when it’s more towards the evenings. The top of the stair is dark, yet you can still see the outlines of the top and the people up there because of the illumination of the lights from the bottom of the staircase. There will be a couple of main light points at this part. A lamp by the couch, and maybe some candles in the kitchen with some moonlight shining it. The two hallways will be empty. The moonlight will be there because it will show the idea that the only time Beatrice allows the …show more content…
This leads me to the overall reason why I would stage this. I want to stage this because I personally have been part of a family and a mother that haven’t been the best providers in my life and I myself like Tillie resorted to school as her outlet and thing that keep her going. It’s the one thing that I have ever really had control over in my life; I control my grades, my social life, and what dedication to the projects that most of the time I find passion in. The thing is I know I’m not the only one and I think that’s what makes this play so inspiring and raw because there are so many people that have been in situations like this and have affected their lives both positively and negatively. I think those that I adapt badly to these situations and evolve to be bad themselves is because of the fact they haven’t found or been exposed to something that can give them purpose to not fall down the same path that the people that have hurt them have. I think this play will show those people how to still have hope in their lives. Just like Zindel

Throughout the entire film, candles were used to create the vintage feeling of the medieval time, but more importantly, lighting controls the atmosphere for every scene in the film. For instance, the scene when Alnaud went to Martin’s village as “the real Martin Guerre”, the house was lighted by candles with a warm and sweet feel. Another example would be when Alnaud and Bertrande walked on a empty field, two guy covered with straws showed up and stopped them since they recognise that Alnaud is not the real Martin Guerre. In this scene, the lighting is really dark, we can barely see the characters face. With the help of the fog, it creates a sinister feel, and also could be a foreshadowing for Alnaud and Bertrande’s ending. Yet another case happens near the end of the film just before the Alnaud’s death. Alnaud confessed to the whole village with a candle on his hand, different from the first example where candles create pleasant environment, this time candle provides a hopeless and heartbreaking atmosphere. It is very interesting that same kind of light source can also creates multiple mood depending on the progress of the…

Lighting, mood, space and tension are used in this moment when Thom and Alethea finally meet in the hallway between their apartments. Lighting is used to create mood when all the lights dim and the focus of the play is forced upon the characters. Tension of relationship is used with the “will they, wont they” mood between both Thom and Alethea. Finally, while it is a one man show, space is used when Thom and Alethea, meet in the hallway with the narrator jumping between both the characters. The use of space is also used when the narrator introduces the days of the week to the audience.…

In scene three, while Blanche is conversing with Mitch, Blanche mentions her intolerance towards bright light as she is afraid it will expose every detail of her facial impurities. She is ashamed of her age so therefore she tries to conceal it by lying to make herself seem younger than she actually is. This represents her insecurity and self-consciousness. The light in this scene is a symbol of revealing the truth, and the lampshade is what hides it. The bright light reveals a woman who has seen more, suffered more and aged more. The light is also metaphorically used as a threat to reveal Blanche’s past and her true nature.…

The seven rooms in this story are one of the details that have a profound symbolic influence on the true meaning of Poe's story. The colors of the seven rooms, and the order in which the rooms are arranged in the story, have a specific meaning, which adds to the actual interpretation of the story. Each room consists of a different color: blue, purple, green, orange, white, violet, and black. When the implied meanings of each of these colors are revealed, the true reason for the rooms develops. Blue often reminds people of beginning of life and the purity that comes with that beginning. Next is purple, which is related to learning, youth, and the beginning of age. Following purple is green which we relate to growth, youthfulness, and energy. This is the point of a person's life when they reach their peak. Orange often reminds people of sunsets, falling leaves, and the beginning of the downfall to winter or the end of the year. Then there is white, which represents faith and the beginning of older age. Violet, which is seen as a darker shade of purple, is next with its reflection of knowledge, old age, and the coming of darkness. Lastly there is black which, as seen by everyone, brings thoughts of death, darkness, grief, and nighttime. If the meanings of these rooms are…

The fire lighting the suite of rooms is another object in the story that represented death. He says, "...There stood, opposite to each window, a heavy tripod, bearing a brazier of fire that projected its rays through the tinted glass... However, in the western or black chamber the effect of the firelight that streamed upon the dark hangings through the blood-tinted panes, was ghastly in the extreme, and produced so wild a look upon the countenances of those who entered..."The fire was meant to produce a shadowy atmosphere in the west and a favorable one in the east. This is symbolic to the sunrise in the east and sunset in the west because light means life and darkness means death. Poe uses…

Time: This play will be taken place in the early morning and will end in the afternoon. It starts in the morning because the story simply states “It is early morning” (Paragraph 2). I chose for the play to end in the afternoon because after the kids play and the black shadow comes along, this will happen over a long period of time. There will be few events that happen throughout the play that will need time to occur.…

My story is a common one that countless people have faced that got in the form of disguise that isn’t always pretty. The various forms of lighting in the movie create a unique effect. When Rembrandt lighting is used in the cell and to focus on his poster, it creates an atmosphere of suspense and tension. The emphasis on the poster may signify “the hiding of the truth” (As the poster is covering his escape route” .In the shots where Andy is crawling through the tunnel, cameo lighting is used. This creates a feeling of adrenaline and fast paced movement. The unstable movements of the torch add to the realism. Another significant lighting technique that is used is the lightning in the background. It creates a silhouette which emits a feeling of mystery and thrill.…
