In Margaret Laurence`s "To Set our House in Order", the protagonist Vanessa learns details of her life that change her into a more mature and understanding person. The epiphany Vanessa has at the end of her story is "that whatever god might love in this world, it was certainly not order"(100). Therefore, she discovers life is not about keeping order in everything but, about how you deal with the obstacles you face. Vanessa`s world is starting to expand even though she is confused by many things taking place in her life. Hence, she wonders how life would be if she died and her sister lived "would she, then, have been lying here in my place"(100). It shows how Vanessa is changing as she goes through hard times where, she is even questioning her
