Summary Of When The Emperor Was Divine

Many characters are introduced in “When the Emperor was Divine,” but there are two major characters that have significant importance in the plot of the story for a numerous of reasons. At the beginning of the story, a mother wearing new glasses and a red dress heads home after going to the hardware store to receive some tools she was going to use later that day. At first glance the mother seemed nothing to note at worth, but there were critical and crucial parts that stood out, like the fact on how the mother was in such a rush to prepare everything in order to evacuate from her house that she once knew. In addition, the mother was an essential character to have because it viewed the perspective of how a parent would see and interact within
a situation of having to leave a home and be forced upon somewhere far and isolated. Next, the mother’s daughter had a symbolic viewpoint since it was seen from a young adolescent child who barely knew what was happening and why they had to leave. Following this the story of the daughter being on the train showed how many people had to live and try to survive in this enclosed area where they had to be kept hidden and protected from outsiders in case of danger. Therefore, it can be seen how life was before then and how different people acted at that time. In conclusion, the main character’s story supported the fact how people were treated and reacted when having to be pushed away from the life that they always knew before to a new one.
