Summary Of White Umbrella

The story “White Umbrella” tells us about a Chinese girl and her sister Mona and their mom is working and the main character really wants the “white umbrella” from her piano teacher, Miss Crossman. The theme of the story illustrates that, being thankful for what you have because family is more important than material possessions. The author conveys the theme of the plot of the story, and what the main character’s actions were, and the lesson the main character learns over the course of the story.

As an illustration, when the main characters piano teacher gives her the “White Umbrella” and she was very happy and thanks her very much that she tells her piano teacher Miss Crossman “I wish you were my mom” and the piano teacher says she shouldn’t say that. For example on page 100 the text states, “Thank you Miss Crossman. Thank you very much. Thanks a zillion. It’s beautiful it’s stupendous! You’re quite welcome, she said.
