Summary Of Women In Combat: Let's Get Real
In the article Women in Combat: Let’s get Real, written by Margaret Wente (2013), the main idea is that women cannot equal men in ground combat. The author uses a logos approach to defend her main idea statement which I believe is effective because she supports her arguments with a variety of facts from different sources. Margaret Wente (2013) argues that “the issue is that the physical differences between men and women are very large, and on the battle field, they really matter, and can’t be wished away” (Paragraph 3). In this argument the author is saying that the physical gap between men and women is too large to be overlooked. The author uses evidence from Stephanie Gutman which states “the average female soldier is about five inches shorter

Women in combat In the article, “Military women in Combat: Why making it official matters” composed by Jena McGregor, the author clearly makes a strong stance regarding women in the military. One point being, that at least 14,00 new jobs were made unrestricted, while 250,00 jobs in the military still remain restricted to men only. The main point in the article is difficult to point out at first , because the author seems to be in favor for women’s advancement in the military without combat and gives example to support her argument.…

If any of you have a family member in the US Army or the Navy, I'm sure you're very proud of them, protecting and serving this nation we call home. I wonder who has a family member that has a woman in the Army or war. But I guess that that's a problem. A lot of people would argue against women in combat. Women should be allowed in combat because men and women are equal as is everyone else, they have the right to serve and protect our nation just as much as men do, and any woman is capable to do so.…

“[Girls] have hips for giving birth, not running like males do” (debate.org). This was an actual quote from someone who voted no on an online public poll on whether or not women should be allowed in combat. For years people of all types have said that women should not be allowed into combat for many reasons. However, the branches of the armed forces are starting to equalize PT standards and accepting women in more jobs that were once men-only positions. Women should be allowed in infantry because the stereotype of men being superior to women is outdated in today’s society, and ladies can bring just as much to the table as men can in a time of war.…

There are many new occupations for women in the military, which will directly lead to women fighting in many combatant positions. Under the 1994 Pentagon policy, women were prohibited from being assigned to ground combat units below brigade level. Former US Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, lifted the rule that restricted women from combat units. The DoD goal is to open about 237,000 positions to women by 2016. Right now there is a plan to validate a gender neutral physical standard that will enable the selection of the those best qualified for combat related positions and may reduce non-combat related injuries for both men and women (Lt. Col Platt 2013). So what’s the big deal? There haven’t been any problems in the last almost 238 years for the US Army. Why is it such a problem now?…

In 2013, the Secretary of Defense removed the ban on women in combat. There have been many debates leading up to and even after the decision. I agree that women should be in combat. I don’t think that it is fair to deny someone their dream because of their gender. It also allows for the combat force to be more diverse and ready to handle all types of situations. These situations need social skills in which women may be better skilled. Recognizing this important difference provides armed forces with a comprehensive force that can solve conflicts swiftly and successfully. The women help meet the needs of a volunteer based force. Many of the higher positions require combat experience. Women should be allowed in combat if that is where their passion leads them without fear of harassment or assault.…
