Summary of a Spark Neglected Burns the House
'Then came Peter, and said to him, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? until seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven. Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would make a reckoning with his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
But forasmuch as he had not wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hold on him, and took him by the throat saying, Pay what thou owest.
So his fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay that which was due. So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were exceeding sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me: shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due. So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.'
- Matthew. xviii. 21-35.

In Fires in the Mind, by Kathleen Cushman, a majority of her words were on mastery and motivation of youth. Kathleen spent a great deal of her time questioning children about different aspects of deliberate practice, mastery in/out of school, and what it means to be a master. In her journey to find answers, she found that many kids already practice deliberate practice outside of school in extracurricular activities (sports, crafts, hobbies, etc.) and wanted to see if the same applied to inside school as well. She discovered, through the kid’s words, that they felt they couldn’t practice the same because it was boring, or irrelevant to them. With that in mind, it provoked many ideas on how to build the class to be engaged and motivate them…

Their first baby, a daughter, was born in January 1922, when my mother was 26 years old. The second baby, a son, was born in March 1923. They were renting farms; my father, besides working his own fields, also was a hired man for two other farmers. They had no capital initially, and had to gain it slowly, working from dawn until midnight every day. My town-bred mother learned to set hens and raise chickens, feed pigs, milk cows, plant and harvest a garden, and can every fruit and vegetable she could scrounge. She carried water nearly a quarter of a mile from the well to fill her wash boilers in order to do her laundry on a scrub board. She learned to shuck grain, feed threshers, shuck and husk corn, feed corn pickers. In September 1925, the third baby came, and in June 1927, the fourth child – both daughters. In 1930, my parents had enough money to buy their own farm, and that March they moved all their livestock and belongings themselves, 55 miles over rutted, muddy…

What follows then is an explanation of grace and repentance. Once more he references the scriptures, but this time it is to show the Lord’s mercy. “We have only to survey the generations of the past to see that in every one of them the Lord has offered the chance of repentance to any who were willing to turn to him.” He then entreats all of the faithful in Corinth to believe the good news and conform to the will of the Father because it is the will of the Father that “repentence should be open to every one of his beloved.”…

Tragic heroes are characters who have made a bad judgment that ends up in their downfall. Some celebrities may also be considered tragic heroes. An example of a tragic hero is Antigone from the play Antigone. Antigone describes to her sister, Ismene, that she wants to give their brother, Polyneices, a fair burial. Polyneices and Eteocles, their other brother, fought each other to their death to become the king of Thebes. Since they both have died, Creon became the new king of Thebes. Two characteristics of a tragic hero is that the punishment for their actions are far greater than deserved. Another characteristic is that tragic heroes believe full heartedly that what they are doing is for the better. Antigone has both of these characteristics making her a good example of a tragic hero.…
