When looking at the difference between the rookie officer’s identity and the occupational identity associated with the field training officer, the language used by the field training officer was taken differently by each person. The use of racial themes felt wrong to the rookie because he was not raised in that way. He said, “I was raised in a Christian home and an environment where that wasn’t common language or thoughts” (Maynard-Moody and Musheno, 2022, pp. 66. The 'Standard' of the 'Standard'. For our project, we will be researching the extent to which juveniles from low socioeconomic backgrounds are more susceptible to online predator victimization when using popular social media apps. When thinking about this topic, several theories can be applied. First, functionalism is a paradigm that can be used. It argues that social institutions contribute to the stability and social order of a society. Adolescents coming from a home that has a lack of parental support or proper schooling are instances where social institutions are not fulfilling their roles. With language and symbols being important factors when social interaction occurs, individuals have their own interpretations that differ from others. In the case of our topic, an adolescent viewing messages online might think it is a harmless, fun conversation. On the other hand, online predators might be sending messages to get access to the child. While social interaction occurs between the adolescent and the predator, different interpretations are a result of how their identity has been
