This year's lockout has involved lots of storylines, suspense, and most of all drama. That usually describes a movie but this flick has conflicting "good guys" and "bad guys." From day to day the media clearly tries to influence who the public views in which role. One day its the owners and the next its the players. Sure, the owners have looked greedy, and the formation of "super teams" has had the players looking the part as well. The funny thing is, the real good guys have made themselves look bad and the real bad guys havent been mentioned at all. I hate to give myself so much credit but it baffles me how all the so called experts have ignored the obvious. The simple …show more content…
They are as follows: Allan Houston, Stephon Marbury, Penny Hardaway, Gilbert Arenas, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, Steve Francis, and Jermaine Oneal. These are the guys who believe it or not set their teams back 7-10 years with injuries, poor play and franchise crippling contracts. They are the pioneers of the 1999 CBA. The Knicks shelled out a total of $327 million to Marbury, Houston, and Hardaway who played a combined 94 games while collecting every cent. The Rockets wont recover from Francis' and McGrady's contracts anytime soon as will The Pacers with Jermaine Oneal and the Sixers with Allen Iverson. Now Iverson is a mild exception. He actually earned his money, but in the process set a terrible precedent for the Lebron generation: If you're an All-Star, you deserve $100 million. It was a reason Philly traded him to Denver. Last but not least Gilbert Arenas. This guy was granted $116 million after 2 knee surgeries. He played 27 games the 1st 3 years of that contract then decided to bring guns to the locker room. However, due to the Lockout signed in 1999, NO CONTRACT COULD BE VOIDED EXCEPT IN THE CASE OF DEATH. Meaning the Wizards were forced to suspend him while still paying on that ridiculous contract. Owners put Arenas' situation on a long list of system issues that had to be changed. Fact: the 2 highest paid players in the league in 2007 wasnt Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Shaq, Dirk, Garnett, or even the Finals MVP Paul Pierce. It was Mcgrady and Jermaine
