In Mesopotamia and India, the laborers and hard workers were put in the lowest class because they could not afford the luxurious lifestyle of the noblemen. The three major classes were the upper, middle, and lower class. The upper class was priests, noblemen, and government officials., the middle class was the military, and the lower class merchants, artisans, craftsmen, and peasants. The lower class was so large because anyone who didn’t have a part in government, the military, or wealth was put into the lowest…
In the social pyramid the top class or the “best” class were the Spanish people or the Spaniards.…
The first Hispanic group we will explore is Columbian Americans. Sturner (2012), “Spanish is the language of most Colombian-American households in the United States, where it serves as perhaps the surest means of preserving traditions” (Colombian Americans). Columbians do not believe they will remain in the United States because of the immigration restrictions, therefore Columbian Americans traditionally devote themselves to politics in Columbia, and most do not become very involved with American politics (Sturner, 2012). Columbian Americans pursued professional careers and took employment as laborers, factory workers, domestic servants, and opened small businesses (Sturner, 2012). According to Sturner (2012), "In the mid-1990’s Colombian Americans had one of the highest average incomes among Latinos and many prospered in business, especially in in ventures in Miami related to trade…

There is a very distinct social class system in Uruguay. This class distinction starts at the top with the landowners. This group is not at the top because of their wealth, they are there because they have the most land and power. The next tier in the class system is the business class. These are the people that own and operate all the businesses in the community. Unlike the United States, military comes next in the social chain, because they hold much power and control over the community. Next come agricultural workers, who do not hold power in society because they do not own a significant amount of money or land. The bottom tier of the social system is the beggars, or "bottom feeders," They have no money, land, power or responsibilities, which in turn brings them no respect as peers.…
Rural Growth and Crisis: While the Latin West flourished under cultivation, farming techniques, an use of machinery and mechanical forms of energy, rural Europeans faced a time of catastrophe and struggle. The growth of population had a major impact on society and caused many difficulties and conflicts to arise. The Black Death in Latin West took care of the over population, but it also caused people to turn more religious and less conservative, caused many social changes, and also led to the higher demand pay from skilled and manual laborers, which then led to revolt by peasants against wealthy nobles and churchman. Mining, metalworking, and the use of mechanical energy all helped with the development of watermills, which were used for many…
The Aztec empire had a very strict social class structure that if not followed would end in death. Using this structure the aztecs were able to rule for many years a create massive buildings and monuments. Even though being a slave is the lowest of the structure they were still treated kindly, when they were not used as human sacrifices. The elders saw the power of knowledge and made sure every class was educated. Commoners were the majority of aztecs and were able to enjoy life but not as much as nobles who regularly received…
In class in America Gregory Mantsios doesn’t waste any time getting straight to the point in his article. The point being that social classes do exist and also cause outstanding difference in the lives of so much people. He questions the theory that states, everyone has the same opportunity to be rich, as long as they determined and work hard. He argues that those who are born in the social classes other that those described as prominent or elite, are facing an automatic and constant disadvantage. Mantsios also feel that race and class standing play a huge role in the type of healthcare and education a person receives. His argument is written adequately well, his use of examples, factual data from authorities, statistics, and case studies makes his essay interesting and at the same time convincing.…
There are a number of different sociological perspectives that attempt to explain class stratification. One theory of which is Marxism. Karl Marx believed that there was a definite conflict between the classes, and that the system of stratification derives from different social groups and their relations to the means of production. From Marx's perspective, a class group is when all it's members share the same relations to the means of production. Marxism also believes that there are only 2 classes, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, showing social closure. The bourgeoisie exploit the proletariat who have to sell their labour to the ruling class. Marx believed that the…
1.)Social class is a “class society, a set of concepts in the social sciences and political theory centered on models of social stratification in which people are grouped into a set of hierarchical social categories”( Grant,2001,p.161). The most common being the upper, middle, and lower classes. The upper class consist of people or families that represent institutional leadership, heads of multinational corporations, foundations, and universities. They are people who have finical stability and are well educated due to their finical income. Most commonly in American society today people fall in the middle class category. Middle class is made of people and families that are involved in clerical work, provide professional support, and engage in data collection. Even though they are educated based on local school systems they are not given the luxury education that you would fine with upper class. Last but not least you have the lower class. The lower class is commonly the hardworking of them all. They work full-time at wages below poverty line and commonly are on some type of social services help such as Medicaid or food stamp program (EBT).Even though they are entitled to education they commonly would rather work to just get by day to day due to finical struggles. Based on these classes’ people in today’s society have certain criteria that are used to determine ones place within the social class scale. Three most common criteria used to measure social class is wealth (property), power and prestige.…

On a four week missionary trip to Bolivia, South America, I was able to see a type of social stratification in real-time. Because I am a self-proclaimed cheer leader for the underdog, inequality advocate of sort and strong people lover, it left me with a sense of awe, bewilderment, and unbelief. My observations were that the indigenous people (natives) of Bolivia very rarely interacted with other Bolivians. Many of the natives held jobs that no one else wanted. They seemed to be very kind people who did what they had to do to make a living. If they had to walk through the streets selling pencils, they would. Many of their norms were very unusual for me. For instance, it was not unusual to see street children who had been abandoned by their parents sleeping under benches in the mornings. Also, it was not unusual to see a gated four-bedroom home, which is what I lived in while there, in the same neighborhood as a single dwelling home without glass windows.…
