Summary - the Frog and the Nightingale
Once upon a time, there lived a frog in Bingle Bog, who croaked all night long from the foot of a sumac tree, in his loud and unpleasant voice. All the creatures hated his “singing” but endured it as they had no other option. He was so stubborn and shameless that nothing from stones to insults to prayers could stop him from singing.

One night, a nightingale came to the tree and sang in such a beautiful, melodious voice, that it left the frog and all the other creatures dumbstruck. The whole bog applauded and cheered her on. The frog was immediately threatened by her. So the next night, the frog approached the nightingale and told her that he was the owner of the tree and well renowned for his splendid voice. He convinced her that she needed training to succeed, and offered her his guidance. The nightingale, impressed by his false stories, gratefully accepted.

So, the nightingale sang and was a huge sensation, attracting animals from miles away, and the frog charged them all for admission. He soon began her “vocal training”, forcing her to sing for six hours continuously in bad weather, till her voice became hoarse. Yet somehow, her voice revived at night, and she continued to pull a great crowd to the tree. The frog watched this, happy at the money he was making, yet bitter with envy. Every day, he scolded and rebuked her, finding faults with her singing and making her feel inferior. This made the nightingale grow unhappy and tired. She could no longer attract the crowds that she was used to, and thus, became more and more miserable. At this, the frog scolded her even more sharply and cruelly. She trembled, puffed up, burst a vein and died. The frog just said that she was too foolish and nervous, and easily influenced. So, once again the frog’s croaking filled the bog,

short story in which a king and seven ministers snidely belittle and ridicule their court jester, Hop-Frog, forcing him to enact an elaborate revenge--is rife with the motivations and consequences of malevolence and inhumanity. The terrible mistreatment of Hop-Frog by the king illuminates how society sees value in being able to laugh at the suffering of others while Hop-Frog’s own twisted revenge demonstrates that cruelty stems from all people.…

‘The Secret Life of Frogs’ is a poem that delves into the childhood perception of war, in particular World War I, and the experiences of their fathers. ‘The Secret Life of Frogs’ deals with the idea of misunderstandings incurred when children attempt to understand adult concepts. This is evident through the use of punning. The term ‘Frog’, which is frequently used throughout the poem adds amusement to the text because to the readers, it not only translates literally to a frog, but also represents the rival French people in the war through a negative light. However, the narrator, who is also one of the children in the poem, does not understand this other meaning attached to the term ‘frog’. This can clearly be seen in the final sentence when the narrator believes in protecting the amphibians, but does not distinguish the term ‘Frogs’ to also represent the French people. The use of allusion, reference to World War I in the poem, emphasizes the idea that children in their innocence, particularly children during the war, can misinterpret what adults talk about. Evident in the line ‘some syllables we used as charms…Gallipoli’, where the children have heard of these words and the negative connotations attached, however they do not know of the magnitude of the events that are associated with the words.…

Near the lodge of this chief stood a great tree, which every year bore corn used for food. One of the friends of the chief had a dream in which he was advised to tell the chief that, in order to cure his daughter, he must lay her beside this tree, and that he must have the tree dug up. This advice was carried out to the letter. While the people were at work and the young woman lay there, a young man came along. He was very angry and said: "it is not all right to destroy this tree. Its fruit is all that we have to live on." With this remark he gave the young woman who lay there ill a shove with his foot, causing her to fall into th hole that had been dug.…

In the story “Hop-Frog,” by Edgar Allan Poe, Hop-Frog is justified for his actions. Firstly, his actions are justified because of the king’s cruel actions. Throughout the story, the king constantly treats Hop-Frog in inhumane ways. One way this occurs is when the king and his councilors give Hop-Frog his nickname. Because Hop-Frog has distorted legs, which cause him extreme pain, he limps when he walks. This unusual walk causes a sense of amusement for the king and his councilors. Hop-Frog is justified because the king and his men make fun of him for something he cannot control. Another way the king is cruel is when he forces Hop-Frog to do something he absolutely despises: “But the king loved his practical jokes, and took pleasure in forcing Hop-Frog to drink and (as the king called it) ‘to…

As the semester reaches the end my mind is enriched in psychological theories that can be applied to everyday use. Obtaining the knowledge of these theories has allowed me to analyze, critically think, and dissect the dimensions of personality. For my final work of this course I have chosen Florence Nightingale. Nightingale is such a significant person in my career field as a registered professional nurse; she of course is the unsung hero of my profession and an outstanding pioneer of her time. There aren’t as many influential nursing figures in history as there are musicians, entertainers, or even sports players. We must always peer deeply into our inspirations and our careers and find who our pioneers are; for me it is Florence Nightingale. When we think of nurses many thoughts or mental pictures come to our minds; perhaps it is a beautiful woman wearing a white hat, or a nasty face with a leaky syringe as you cringe for your vaccination. The truth of the matter is why do humans choose to work in a field where people are sick, dying, and helpless? Based on all of the theories and approaches we have learned about throughout this class, there are different explanations some valid others hard to apply. Throughout Nightingales life she dedicated herself to the field of nursing, her behavior relentless in helping others, her passion for the field remarkable, and we must ask ourselves how psychological theories and approaches might have formed this incredible human being of nursing history. The following psychological theories and approaches will be discussed in the formation of Florence Nightingale; Psychoanalytic and Neoanalytic theory, psychosocial theories, Trait, Evolutionary, and Genetic/Biological approaches, Cognitive, Behavioral, and Social learning theories, and lastly the Humanistic theories.…

Nursing is a job we would consider a very selfless job. It’s a job that requires you to be at your best at every moment because someone’s life or well-being is depending on you. Long shifts may get you tired, you may not have a lunch break because you are working non-stop but you could care less. All you care about is impacting the lives of others. You are constantly putting others before yourself. Well in this case Florence Nightingale was the person who did just that. Florence Nightingale was born on May 12 in the year of 1820 in Florence Italy. Her parents named her after the Italian cities in Italy. In her early teens Florence discovered that she wanted to become a nurse not just because she wanted to do it, but the simple fact that she had got a “calling from God” to do God’s work. Florence’s parents did not want her to pursue the career in being a nurse because they did not make as much during those days. But this didn’t stop her she continued to fulfill her dreams at the age of 17 and was determined not to get distracted for…

In the story “Hop-Frog,” Hop-Frog is justified during his last jest to the king. The king treats him like trash while he talks to him during his performances and does not care about him: “His value was trebled in the eyes of the king, [The king is making fun of him] by the fact of his being also a dwarf and a cripple” (Poe 1). While he makes fun of Hop, he is getting more furious to the point where he is grinding his teeth. Further in the story the kind wants Hop-Frog to drink wine from a goblet even though he does not wish to: “ He knew that Hop-Frog was not fond of wine, for it excited the poor cripple to almost madness . . . But the king loved his practical jokes…”(Poe 2). This just shows how he is not a very good friend and even pushing…
