Utilizing Online Social Networking
This will be based on the search of the LinkedIn networking site for contacts in the chosen field of children services. Once chosen it will be discussed if the companies have monthly or yearly public meetings, if these groups provide continuing education or credits for licensed professionals. There will be an analysis of the referrals or community-based programs that will benefit clients. It will be discussed how this site helps a professional to stay connected with other professionals in the community. Human Service professionals. There will be a discussion how connecting into this professional community will help to offer more support or referrals for clients. Also to be discussed will be how training will keep one up-to-date and competitive in this field. Other technological tools for managing professional contacts will be looked at. Then it will be shown how using this site will help to stay connected with other human services professionals.
The first company that was looked at was the Intermountain-Restoring Hope for Children.
This company I am familiar with as children I know have personally been served by this company and I want to work for them in the future. This company does not state whether or not they have monthly or yearly meetings to network with professionals. Nor does it state whether or not it has continuing education or education credits, however my personal contacts have showed that indeed it does support continuing education. The next company that was profiled was the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. This company does not state anything about meeting’s to network with other professionals. However, with looking at this company and reading the profile does appear that they have many professional contacts. This is a company who ensure the quality of the agency programs offers an extensive in-service training program and internships through social work schools in New York and throughout the nation. This company is a nonprofit that offers community-based programs and residential facilities and day-treatment centers. This suggests that there is a referral service within this company to help serve clients.
The next company that was profiled is the Mental Health America. Although there does not appear to be a statement of meetings there are many means of updating information and joining this companies group. They do also have specialties in information and referrals for clients. This company does state if it has any forms of continuing education or credits. They do however state that they have more than 240 affiliates across the nation so I would want to think there is a way to keep in touch here with other professionals. This is as well a company who I am personally going to be looking further into and see what contacts will transpire from them and what positions that may arise through those contacts.
The way that a site, such as LinkedIn possibly could help me to stay connected in my professional community and to further possibly my business opportunities within my chosen field is that they have groups that you can join; they have company profiles, a way to in-mail professionals of the companies that you are profiling. This site also offers a way to update your profile and look at other people’s profiles. There is also a way to join University of Phoenix groups on here that would help to stay connected with not just students but also other phoenix professionals. The way that this would help to further business opportunities is this listed shows job listings in your chosen field. You can also opt to choose to follow a specific company so that if there are updates and possible job postings so you will know about them.
The way that I personally could use the site LinkedIn in my community to stay connected with other human service professionals is simple and has already been used before today.
Many of the human service professionals that I have had personal contact with since moving to the state of Montana are Phoenix Alumni and have their own profile on LinkedIn. This is a way that I could keep up-to-date on how they are progressing in their careers or if they have become a former employee of the organization they work with. This will help to know what is happening in this field within the organizations, such as if they are not performing to the missions.
The way that being tied in to an online organization or group, such as those offered on LinkedIn would help to offer more support services to clients because by having contact, I would know where support can be obtained. Also by staying connected it would help to let me know when there are alerts to take action on behalf of client. Such alerts may be for rallies for mental health or opportunities to contact legislators on behalf of mental health
clients.
The way, that attending approved training provided by groups will keep me up-to-date, and therefore helping to stay competitive. Is that everybody needs training in his or her chosen fields. The training will keep you up-to-date on suggested software and trainings offered by programs that may prove to be beneficial to not just myself but also my client base.
Other technological devices are smart phones, Skype, I-Pads. With these there are software programs are offered by companies to stay connected with professionals within your company. When using technology there are many other ways to stay connected, such as social Medias like LinkedIn and Facebook applications.
The way that I would use this site to stay connected in my community is to see what other professional I have met are on here. I would offer the professionals that I come into contact with the site name and ask them to go add me as a contact. I would use this site to in-mail the professionals that I have contact with and I would also allow them to follow myself or to follow them such as on twitter.
This paper was based on three companies that had been profiled on LinkedIn. It was discussed how this site could help a professional stay connected in their community with other professionals. The companies looked at did not have or state whether or not they had any required meetings to network with other’s. Only one company appeared to have affiliates, and one appeared to offer internship and training. There was also a discussion on how this site would be beneficial to myself and to clients.
