Coming to UVa, I would say I was insecure about my writing and I saw taking two semester of ENWR as a burden. However, I am happy to say that it turned out to be the exact opposite. By taking two semesters, I was able to develop over the year as well as build my writing confidence. The skills I improved in ENWR helped my writing in all my classes.
ENWR took a different approach than I expected. The class focused on the content rather than the grammar. This was very beneficial because the content of my work was graded rather than placement of commas, which is simply an error most times. This comes from the fact that the class is very discussion base. Speaking and being able to articulate my ideas then translated to better papers as well as. My arguments began to flow better and make more sense. In addition, the thought provoking questions This transformation has comes about because of the thought provoking question from rough draft feedbacks as well as the discussion in class that really hone in on why. By challenging my positions and thoughts, I began to formulate my thoughts better.
Process Reflection Personally, I like very specific directions in order to structure my essay. This helps guide my conversation in my essay. Essentially, when im confused on the purpose or what my “so what” is I find it very challenging. With that being said, second semester essay #2 and #3 were the most difficult. I found it hard to just compare to things, I felt as though I had to come to a profound realization. This made me realize that is was just a different type of essay. Which made it even hard was that it wasn’t two concepts, rather two videos and two paper advertisements. I didn’t understand whether I was suppose to summarize or come to a conclusion. Because of this confusion, my ideas in my paper were somewhat scattered. I didn’t know what to say in my paper. That made me realize that I just needed to take a different approach to the essay—it wasn’t the normal argumentative
