Summer At My Cabin In Show Low, Arizona
During summer vacations, my family spends as much time as we can at our cabin in Show Low, Arizona. The smell of pine trees, a chilling breeze, and the crackling of fireplaces gives such a comforting feeling and allows me to escape from the real world for a while. It is relieving to get away from the blazing heat down in Phoenix. We have many lifelong friends who also share the pleasure of owning a cabin in Show Low. Summer is, by far, the best part of every year.
Our cabin lies right on the 13th tee box of a golf course. Every morning, we wake up to the “tink” of a club hitting the ball off the tee. Swimming at the community pool, playing games at the family center, and enjoying the outdoors of the forest is how we spend our days. Once in awhile, my siblings and I get a big group of friends together and go hiking around the lake to go cliff jumping into the water. The sunset over the reservoir is miraculous. The orange and pink in the sky gives the water a beautiful shimmer. It makes it look like someone poured dye in

We run all around and chase each other until we could barely walk anymore. After “50 Fast”, we go home and have a second serving of Tacos in a Bag because the aroma lingers in the cabin and it is unavoidable. Whenever my mom makes Tacos in a Bag, I get a deja vu feeling to the summers we have at our cabin. It seems like the scent of ground beef and fresh vegetables carry so much more than flavor. When I smell this in our kitchen, I can feel the cool breeze of chilly Show Low nights. I can smell the aroma of pine trees in the forest. I can hear the crackling of our fireplace as we all sit around and eat our dinner. I can hear all of my friends laughing and screaming and having a good time. Nothing can ever beat that feeling of comfort I get from Tacos in a

Throughout the years my family and I have shared many special traditions. One in particular that is very special to us is a dish we generally make in any major holiday or family function. It is a dish from my parent’s hometown of San Luis Potosi, Mexico called “Enchiladas Del Sur”. Enchiladas Del Sur meaning Enchiladas from the South, has been in our family for generations. Many years ago my grandmother taught it to my mother and her sisters, my mother then passed the recipe to me, and one day I hope to pass it to my daughter as well. Enchiladas Del Sur has never disappointed anyone who has tried them. They hold a special place in our hearts because of the fond memories and because…

A Christmas carols by CHARLES DICKENS, it’s not only about the way that scrooge act as stingy and wretch, but it’s also a chance of given to make scrooge transformed to a generous and kind person. Readers denied being always hatred about scrooge. This can be separate to both sides. First scene scrooge did act as tight-fisted and cold-hearted to others, the way his talk and act makes audience disgusted. But when looking back for his past, the reader understands he has a hard childhood experience. Unfortunately scrooge was always been forgotten, therefore the audience feels sorry for him. Oppositely, by giving a chance to Scrooge to redemption and transformed to a charitable and generous gentleman.…

There I am sitting in my canoe, I close my eyes and just listen. I listen to the trees swaying in the breeze, the raindrops pitter-patting on my coat, the movement of the paddle as it dips into the water. I picture the beautiful autumn foliage that surrounds me as leaves gently fall from the tree onto the surface of the water and make a print on the water, even if it is only there for a second. As English writer William Hazlitt once said “We do not see nature with our eyes, but with our understandings and our hearts.” This is how I felt out on the river during our trip, I felt like I could really understand and appreciate the beauty and serene peace of being one with nature. I also felt like I could appreciate the care that it takes to keep…

Up in the mountain tops, just past Payson and just before Strawberry, lies my home away from home. It’s the good old, “Olson family cabin.” Sitting at approximately 5300 feet elevation it is naturally 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Which is great because you don't melt in the summer like you do down in the valley. It is not your typical log cabin. Rather, it is a small house with a large loft, almost as big as the house. It is surrounded by tall, rich green pine trees, and for that reason my family has dubbed it the “cabin.” It has beautiful, hand crafted, wooden deck that surrounds the entire outside of the house where we lie to barbecue and just hang out.…

There’s no other place in the world where I feel the most at home than being at Long Beach Island. There you can smell the fresh, salty air of the ocean as the warm breeze brushes across your face. It is a place where the sand, sometimes chilled by the water or boiling hot up in the sand dunes, fiddles its way through your toes one by one sending chills down your spine with every step. Off in the distance you can hear the chiming of bells as the ice cream men call children of all ages to cool themselves off with a frozen treat. This is the place that all summer long, I am lucky to call home.…

It is the place where I go after long days of strenuous activity whether it's skiing, biking, or a day on the lake. It's the place to go and grab a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold snowy day. The cabin offers comfort as well as entertainment at any time. From a wide variety of games such as pool, air hockey, tv, and board games, it is rare to find boredom in this place.. The main living room is spacious with high ceilings and cozy fireplace, perfect for an after ski snack. There are large windows on the upstairs to get an excellent view of the lake. Outside the cabin during the winter, there is plenty of snow to play around with and sled on. In the past, me and my two younger brothers have built sled tracks that go off of cliffs and land on icy patches of snow and who ever would go first would get $5. Of course the things I did back then were not the greatest ideas and usually ended up with a trip to the hospital. Often at night the sky is filled with stars that are visible on the deck of the second floor of my cabin and I have seen several shooting stars zoom across the sky. My favorite part about this cabin is the many memories that I have shared here with my family and relatives over the holidays and the joy that this special place has…

In my earlier years my family took me camping to a lake. My cousins came as well, which made it even more enjoyable. When we arrived at the campsite, I was in awe. It was something out of a Disney movie. There were towering pine trees shielding us from the sun’s rays. Wild plants and bushes surrounded our campsite, but not too far away was a clearing in the bushes where we can see the lake in all its glory. People were fishing, kayaking, swimming, and playing with their dogs.…

Some people enjoy the beach, others enjoy the mountains, but my favorite place is Branson, Missouri. Imagine peering down from the dock into a body of water in which you can see every little detail as it descends toward the bottom. You look up and see the cascading Ozark Mountains as if they were part of the border of Mona Lisa’s frame. A hush and peace unlike any other overwhelms you. You can hear the calming sounds of nature as an underlying harmony to that peace. The birds croon soft tones as the water flows softly past the dock. As the morning begins, a cool breeze floats off of Table Rock Lake giving the sensation of Fall no matter what time of the year it may be. Your stomach begins to growl as the smell of fresh baked…

Whether choosing to spend a few days at a hotel or camping in the woods there are always memories to be made. Hotels are usually located near popular visitation sites, such as: Cedar Point, Michigan Adventures, or Universal Studios. It doesn’t matter which hotel you stay in, what happens outside the hotel is normally where the memories are made; unless it is a resort with a connected waterpark or casino. Surely at hotels you may receive free continental breakfast and housekeepers to clean up your mess. But hotels can also be a bit pricey and boring when it comes to family vacation. Vacationing in the great outdoors is mesmerizing, with plenty of free activities for the family. Campsites are ideally located near rivers, lakes or streams and come at a comfortable price. This makes it easy for families to enjoy the outdoors, swim in the water, kayak or just play tag; this also saves money, keeps the family together and keeps everyone…

My secret hideaway is actually an abandoned hut about 3km in the jungle behind my home. Whenever I have the urge to go on my therapeutic trip, I usually leave in the morning. After packing my haversack with bottles of water, some food, books and other essential items such as a machete and torchlight, I set off with a spring in my steps. I like the early morning walk through the jungle; the air is crisp and invigorating. The gloom provided by the jungle canopy is punctuated by beams of sunlight. I have often stopped and stared at the magical vision that has never felt to me in awe.…

My room, with its orange hues, is the brightest one of all the rooms. Be it summer, winter or monsoon, the room is always airy with plenty of light. Passing by my parents’ room, I feel a sense of warmth. The beige and cascade green always make me feel warm inside. I make myself a cup of hot coffee and head towards our balcony, which faces the beautiful, lush green lawns next to the slope of the nearby hill. I take a deep breath, inhaling the beautiful aroma of the wet soil. The chirps and trills and cuckoos of the birds draw my attention. People say, birds never visit places where we stay. That is so not true! A person just has to get up early and have a stroll down the road near his house. It’s hard to believe that there are so many of them around us.…
